POV: Snow City With Your Family in 2011
You are at Snow City in 2011 with your family. You are handed a black puffer jacket and boots that are too big, you walk through the door into minus five degrees, you last about forty minutes on the snow slope, and you leave through a gift shop called The Igloo with a polar bear keychain. Then you go home to Jurong and it is 32 degrees. That is the whole memory and 800 people liked it, because Snow City was weeks from closing for good on 30 September 2026 and everyone was suddenly remembering it at once.
What the 2011 visit was
The photos in our post are from family bloggers of that era: the jacket rack, the slope with a dozen kids sliding down on tubes, a snowman with a scarf, a Christmas tree in July, a lollipop-themed corner, and a polar bear mascot suit that has haunted at least one commenter since. Snow City was a single indoor snow chamber at the Science Centre in Jurong East, and it looked basically the same from 2000 until the day it shut. That is the point. Nobody went for the facilities. You went because it was the coldest place in Singapore and your parents were paying.
The Jurong kids in our other post called it "a childhood fever dream", which is the correct term for a place you remember as much bigger than it is.
It closed on 30 September 2026
Snow City closed for good on 30 September 2026, per the Science Centre Board, after a farewell run with $19 and $16 tickets. So the exact 2011 experience is gone, and there is no indoor snow left in Singapore to replace it. Why it shut and what happens next is in our Snow City closure explainer.
