Eventful Giveaway Scams: How to Tell a Fake Winner DM
We run a $50 giveaway for one random follower every month, and impersonators ride on it. If you get a message saying you have won, the only account it can legitimately come from is @eventful_sg.
The pattern these scams follow
A handle close to ours messages you congratulations. Then comes one of three asks: a small fee or shipping charge, a link to claim, or your personal and banking details. All three are the scam. A real prize never costs money to receive, and we never collect bank details by DM. Our giveaway guide lays out how the real draw works.
What to do if you get one
Do not reply and do not click. Report the account to Instagram and block it. If you are unsure whether a message is really from us, open our profile from search rather than from the message, and check whether that same account sent it. Lookalike handles swap a letter, add an underscore or use a different platform icon.
