Why Eventful Started Networking Events: Joston's Founder Story

This is the video where Joston, who runs EventfulSG, explains why we started hosting networking events for business owners. Posted on 12 October 2025, it covers the failed projects, how hard it was to meet other founders when nobody knew him, and why posting founder advice online was not enough. The first event followed twelve days later.

In this article
  1. What the video is about
  2. The problem he wanted to fix
  3. What came next

What the video is about

He says it in the caption: he was tearing up making it. Not a pitch, more a look back at a long run of things that did not work. In his words, he started a lot of dumb stuff and does not regret any of it.

The point he lands on is that every failure narrowed things down. What not to do, what to focus on, whether it was a product, a service or just getting a business to profitable. If you want the dated version of how the page itself grew, we wrote up the six moments that built EventfulSG.

The problem he wanted to fix

The hardest part, he says, was not the failing. It was not knowing anybody. Making business connections as a nobody is slow, and he wished he had a mentor to learn from.

So he started @eventfulsg.wealth and posted advice from founders he admired. That helped people read the lessons. What it could not give them was the personal connection, the bit where you actually meet the person and they remember you.

What came next

The answer was to meet these founders in person. Twelve days after this video, on 24 October 2025, we ran our first networking night at Cheeselads, capped at 25 people. A month later came the How To Get Your First 1M TikTok Views event with Angelo Wan and Melvin Soh.

How each one went, honestly, is in the first event recap and the second one, including what we got wrong.

Good to know

· If you are early and know nobody, go to small rooms. 25 people is a size where you actually talk to everyone.

· Write down what each failed project taught you. It is the only part of a failure you get to keep.

· Updates on future Eventful Wealth events go out on the Telegram channel first, per our posts.
