The cup wins. Not because it tastes best, but because it is the only one that survives the walk from the cart to wherever you are actually going. The rainbow bread is the one you remember and the wafer is the one you regret about ninety seconds in.
The cup is the practical answer and we will defend it. Singapore is thirty degrees and humid, the uncle is usually parked somewhere with no shade, and a block of ice cream in bread has a working life of about two minutes. In a cup you get a spoon and you get time.
The rainbow bread is the highest scoring one on feeling and the lowest on engineering. It is soft, it goes translucent where the ice cream touches it, and you have to eat it standing still. That is fine when you are twelve and have nowhere to be.
The wafer is the worst of both. It is not as good as the bread and it does not hold together like the cup. It exists because it looks tidier.
If ranking things you already have opinions about is your thing, our Yakult flavours ranked and Playmade drinks ranked are the same argument in different flavours.
There are fewer of them every year and the ones that are left are mostly in the same few places: Orchard Road near the malls, around the older heartland town centres, outside a handful of MRT exits at the end of the school day. They are one man, one cart, cash, and no queue system.
Prices differ from cart to cart, so ask rather than assume. Bring coins. Most of them are not set up for PayNow and the ones that are will still prefer the coins.
· Take the cup if you are walking anywhere. The bread is a stand-still-and-eat-it item.
· Bring coins. Most carts are cash and asking to scan is how you hold up the line.
· The carts near Orchard Road are the most reliable to find. Heartland ones move with the school day.
