Discontinued KFC Singapore Items, Rated: Meltz to Fish Ole

Cheesy BBQ Meltz is the one that still hurts, and it is the one KFC keeps bringing back in a slightly different shape. Fish Ole, the Shroom Burger, the Roasta Burger and the Double Down are the other four we rated, and only two of them earned the petitions they got.

The five, and where we landed

Cheesy BBQ Meltz. The top of the list and the reason the post exists. It left the KFC Singapore menu in 2012, and the demand was loud enough that it came back in 2014. Since then it has returned in different forms rather than as itself: a Chipotle Meltz with chipotle mayo in April 2020, a Cheesy Zinger Meltz built on the Zinger patty in 2022, and another Meltz run announced by KFC Singapore for 25 October 2023. There is a Change.org petition for the original, which tells you how much of this is nostalgia and how much is the sandwich.

Fish Ole. Underrated then and underrated now. Crisp shell, a filling with actual flavour, and a genuinely better argument than the fish burger everyone defaults to.

Shroom Burger. Our personal favourite of the five. Mushroom against the Original Recipe spice blend worked better than it sounds on paper.

Roasta Burger. The one with the loudest fanbase relative to how good it was.

Double Down. Came back with a Samyang twist, which is the modern way of admitting the original was a stunt.

KFC Singapore still does this. Our writeup of the curry sambal Zinger prata is the current version of the same limited-run habit.

Why KFC keeps doing this

Bringing something back is cheaper than inventing something, and a comeback comes with its own marketing already written by the people asking for it. The Meltz is the clearest case: three separate returns, each one a little different from the last, each one covered as if it were news.

The catch for you is that none of these are reliably on the menu. Every item on this list is a limited run when it appears at all, so treat any mention of them, including this page, as history rather than a menu.

Good to know

· None of these five are permanent menu items. They come back as limited runs and go again.

· The Meltz has returned at least three times in different forms. The one you remember is the 2012 original, not the Chipotle or Zinger versions.

· If a comeback is announced, go in the first week. These runs end early when they sell through.

FAQs

Is the KFC Cheesy BBQ Meltz coming back?

There is no announced return. It has come back several times before, including in 2014, as the Chipotle Meltz in April 2020, as the Cheesy Zinger Meltz in 2022, and in another run announced for 25 October 2023.

Why was the Cheesy BBQ Meltz discontinued?

It came off the KFC Singapore menu in 2012. Demand for it was strong enough that KFC brought it back in 2014, and it has since returned in modified forms.

What was in the Chipotle Meltz?

Original Recipe chicken, tomatoes, BBQ nachos and cheese, with chipotle mayonnaise added. It ran in April 2020.
