We rated five PlayMade drinks out of ten. Honey Green Tea wins at 9, Chrysanthemum Milk Tea is 8, Taiwan Milk Tea is 7, the Pink Cactus Smoothie is 5, and Strawberry Matcha comes last at 3.
Honey Green Tea, 9/10. The best thing on the menu, and it hits differently with the pink cactus pearls. If you order one drink here, this is the one.
Chrysanthemum Milk Tea, 8/10. We do not usually like milk teas and we liked this. Chrysanthemum is doing something the standard black tea base cannot, and it is lighter than it sounds.
Taiwan Milk Tea, 7/10. Solid. They also do an SG Milk Tea and we honestly could not tell the two apart, which says something about one of them.
Pink Cactus Smoothie, 5/10. Bandung, but a smoothie, and more expensive. Nice colour. That is the review.
Strawberry Matcha, 3/10. Not the worst thing anyone has done to matcha, but there are better options in Singapore and PlayMade is not where you should be spending a matcha craving. Our matcha tier list has the places that actually get it right.
The pearls. That is the brand, that is why the cups are worth the money, and it is why the fruit-flavoured pearls are worth paying the top-up for even on a drink you would otherwise skip.
Which is also why Strawberry Matcha lands where it does. A matcha specialist builds the drink around the tea. PlayMade builds it around the texture, and matcha is the one flavour that does not survive being a supporting act.
· Get the pink cactus pearls in the Honey Green Tea. That combination is the reason it scores highest.
· The Taiwan and SG milk teas taste close enough that you can order whichever queue moves faster.
· Skip the matcha here. Go somewhere that specialises if that is what you want.
Honey Green Tea, on our scoring. We gave it 9/10, and it is best with the pink cactus pearls.
We gave it 3/10. It is drinkable, but there are far better places in Singapore for matcha.
Their pearls, including fruit-flavoured ones like pink cactus. The pearls are the reason to go, more than any single tea base.
