Yes, mala pearls are real. PlayMade launched Mala Pearl in late October 2026, a spicy pearl topping made with mala chain A Hot Hideout, and it goes on PlayMade's Milk Tea and Fresh Milk Tea series. PlayMade says it is best in Taiwan Milk Tea and that it is in stores now.
It is a topping, not a new drink. You order a milk tea from PlayMade's Milk Tea or Fresh Milk Tea series and add Mala Pearl instead of the usual pearls. PlayMade's own pick is Taiwan Milk Tea, which we gave a fair 7/10 in our PlayMade drinks ratings. A milky base does make sense here, the same way you want a kopi peng next to your mala.
One creator who tried it, @deeniseglitz on Instagram, said it "tastes like a mochi ball soaked in thick Mala soup". That is either the best or worst sentence you will read today, and you already know which camp you are in.
It is a two-way swap. Over at A Hot Hideout, PlayMade's Pomelo Blossom Milk Tea with Pink Cactus Pearls is back, you can add Pink Cactus Pearls to their Thai Milk Tea, and you can add Mala Pearls into your mala bowl. A Hot Hideout says its side runs from 24 October to 6 November 2026 only, at all its outlets except Jurong West.
PlayMade has not posted an end date or a price for the topping on its own channels, and it has not listed which of its outlets carry it, only that it is in stores now. Since the A Hot Hideout half of the collab ends on 6 November, we would not wait long if you want to try it. Ask at the counter before you queue.
New to PlayMade? It is the brand known for pearls made in-store, and it sits in our bubble tea brands guide for exactly that reason.
· Start with less sugar. Sweet and mala fight each other, and the spice wins.
· Get it in Taiwan Milk Tea first, the way PlayMade suggests, before you try anything wild.
· Check with the counter that your outlet has it before ordering.
Yes. PlayMade announced Mala Pearl on its own Instagram in October 2026 as a new topping made with A Hot Hideout.
PlayMade says it is available with its Milk Tea and Fresh Milk Tea series, and best paired with Taiwan Milk Tea.
PlayMade has not posted an end date. The A Hot Hideout side of the collab runs from 24 October to 6 November 2026 at all A Hot Hideout outlets except Jurong West.
