For date night in Singapore, take Makan Match at eventful-sg.com/makan-match, answer "Yes it's a date" to question 3, and you get 15 date-friendly spots in under two minutes, free, no app. On our run (aircon, no buffet, below $50) the top two were KANTIN at Jewel and Epicurean Fusion in Kampong Glam, both bookable straight from the results; yours will differ, ties are shuffled.
Question 3 of Makan Match is the date question. Each card on your results gets a short reason line, and on a date run the reason lines pick up your date answer. The rest of my list was mostly cocktail bars around Amoy Street and Keong Saik plus a few restaurants, which is about right for a first date under $50.
The budget answer matters as much. "Below $50" is a hard line: nothing the quiz rates clearly above $50 a head will show.
Top photo: Epicurean Fusion
Epicurean Fusion, 4 Jalan Klapa, Kampong Glam. Muslim-owned, halal Italian with charcoal-base pizza and a 20-minute beef Wellington. Closed Mondays. Book Epicurean Fusion.
KANTIN, Jewel Changi Airport. It calls itself Singapore's only Bornean kitchen, five floors up under the glass canopy. Book KANTIN.
Cheeselads, 117 Tyrwhitt Road. Cheese shop by day, cheese bar by night, open till 10.30pm and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. They made our Drop #001 cheese box.
Opinion: KANTIN is the better pick for a first date because the room gives you something to talk about. Epicurean Fusion is better when you already know each other and want to share three plates.
Tap "Above $50 (DAYUM)" and the splurge end opens up.
Burnt Ends. Cooks with wood, lists itself at No. 93 on the 2025 World's 50 Best list. Book well ahead.
Odette. French fine dining, the special-occasion answer.
PS.Cafe Harding Road. The leafy one in the Dempsey area, good for a slow brunch date.
Whole Earth, Peck Seah Street. Plant-based Peranakan and Thai, which its site says has held a Bib Gourmand since 2016, if your date does not eat meat. This one shows up on either budget.
Honestly, for an anniversary I would still pick the place with the story over the place with the stars. The quiz shows you both, you choose.
The order that works: take the quiz, pick one, book it, then send your date the booking. Sending a list of 15 and asking "which one" puts the decision back on them. For more ideas, see our Jewel food guide.
· Answer the aircon question for your date, not for you.
· Tick the avoid screen if your date does not eat beef or seafood. It drops places whose cuisine or name says so, so still read the list.
· Epicurean Fusion is closed on Mondays. Plan around it.
· Book first, then send the link.
