Munchi Pancakes, the halal min jiang kueh chain with 42 outlets in Singapore, is opening its first outlet in Malaysia. Its new account @munchipancakes.my has said "akan datang" since 18 September 2026 and still reads "Coming soon!" as of 20 October. The only location and date named so far, AEON Tebrau City in Johor Bahru with an October opening, comes from a creator's collab post that sits on Munchi Malaysia's own feed, not from a Munchi announcement. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and what it means whether you are in Singapore or KL.
Munchi Pancakes Malaysia opened its Instagram account on 18 September 2026 with three posts: an "Akan Datang" poster, a line calling it Singapore's favourite halal apam balik and saying it is coming to Malaysia, and a promise of flavours "ranging from traditional to exciting new". On 29 September it posted a teaser in Malay saying the brand with more than 40 outlets wants to open a shop in Malaysia and asked followers to guess where. That is the whole official record. No address, no date, no ringgit prices.
Munchi's Singapore website does not mention Malaysia at all. Its locations page lists 42 outlets, every one of them in Singapore. If you want the back story on the brand, we covered why Munchi made its Pistachio Kunafa flavour permanent last month.
A 10 October collab post by the creator @cwlovebrinjal, published with Munchi Malaysia as a co-author so it appears on Munchi's own grid, says Munchi Pancakes is coming to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, at AEON Tebrau, opening in October. Under the 29 September guessing post, the first two guesses were also AEON Tebrau. Munchi has let that sit without correcting it, which is as close to a yes as you get before the official post.
Our read: JB first, not KL. AEON Tebrau City is the big mall on the Tebrau side of JB that Singaporeans already drive up to on weekends, so the first Malaysian Munchi is aimed at both sides of the Causeway. The October date is the shaky part. It is 20 October and the account still says coming soon, so do not plan a trip around it until Munchi Malaysia posts an opening date itself.
Munchi started in 2016 when two childhood friends, Calvyn and Au, took over the Yishun min jiang kueh stall they used to eat at and started messing with the recipe: charcoal and green tea skins, fillings beyond peanut and coconut. Today it is halal-certified and sells three formats. Min Jiang Kueh is the folded pancake Malaysians know as apam balik. The Munchi Pancake is a thicker, rounder version with over 20 flavours, some of them cold fillings. Mini Munchi are bite-sized, sold in boxes of six with up to two flavours a box.
The flavours worth knowing before you queue: Pistachio Kunafa, the Dubai chocolate pairing that Munchi kept on the menu after customers asked, and Kopi Gao, a stronger kopi filling with coffee bits that Munchi says is at all its outlets. Whether the Malaysian menu matches the Singapore one is not published yet. Our Pistachio Kunafa launch piece has the full Singapore outlet list if you are visiting from across the Causeway first.
Nothing changes here. All 42 outlets stay, and the Malaysian one is a franchise-style expansion, not a move. The one thing worth watching is price. Munchi does not publish its flavour prices online even in Singapore, and customer posts put a pancake at about $2.70 to $2.90 here, so a JB outlet priced in ringgit will be the cheapest Munchi there is. Expect the usual Singaporean weekend queue.
· Follow @munchipancakes.my, not the Singapore account, for the opening date. The Singapore account and website have said nothing about Malaysia.
· If you are driving to AEON Tebrau City on a weekend for it, check the account the morning you go. Coming soon has meant coming soon since 18 September.
· First-timers: order the Mini Munchi box so you can try two flavours, and put Pistachio Kunafa in it.
Yes. Munchi Pancakes Malaysia (@munchipancakes.my) has posted "akan datang" and "coming to Malaysia" since 18 September 2026 and its bio reads Coming soon as of 20 October 2026. It has not announced an address or opening date itself.
A creator collab post on Munchi Malaysia's own Instagram feed, dated 10 October 2026, names AEON Tebrau City in Johor Bahru with an October opening. Munchi has not posted the location itself, so treat it as unconfirmed until it does.
Munchi Pancakes describes itself as halal-certified on its website and its Malaysia account calls it Singapore's number one halal apam balik.
Nothing has been announced for KL. The only location linked to the first Malaysian outlet is Johor Bahru.
A Singapore take on min jiang kueh, which Malaysians know as apam balik. Munchi sells the folded Min Jiang Kueh, a thicker Munchi Pancake with over 20 flavours, and bite-sized Mini Munchi in boxes of six.
