What you get for $19.90 at Family Mookata

The reel says it in one line: we could not believe how much the $19.90 covered. On the pan in our video there is pork belly, marinated chicken, scallops, a mala-red chicken and two bricks of instant noodles, and the tray underneath has crabsticks, cabbage, fishballs and more pork waiting. That is one round. The counter is free flow, so you go back as many times as you like.

Family Mookata's own menu on Eventful Tables lists marinated pork, chicken and smoked duck, live baby lobster and crayfish from the tank, flower crab, scallops, oysters, abalone slices, salmon and sambal stingray, plus balls, tofu, vegetables, mushrooms, noodles and rice, a lok lok station on the house, a free-flow melted cheese dip, and ice popsicles, fruit and cake to finish. Our honest take: the value is in the seafood. If you spend the first round on noodles and fishballs you have paid $19.90 for a cheap supper. Net a lobster, grab the scallops and the salmon, and the price stops making sense in a good way.

The rules: minimum pax, timings, kids, halal

Minimum two people per booking, because the charcoal pan is built for two and there are no solo bookings. Adults are $19.90 nett and children from 100cm to 140cm are $14.90 nett. There is no separate weekend price on the menu, and no dining time limit is listed, just last orders at 9.30pm. The menu covers food only, so ask about drinks at the counter.

The deals on the Tables listing, word for word: Mon to Fri, 1pm to 4pm, 10% off all food; Mon to Thu, 5pm to 8pm, 5% off. Drinks not included, no discounts on public holidays, only 5 bookings per timing. The weekday afternoon slot is the bigger saving and it is before the dinner crowd, which matters because the tank empties from the lobster end first.
