Gotcha Matcha is a matcha stand at B1-K16 in The Woodleigh Mall, 11 Bidadari Park Drive, open 11am to 9pm. It started as a pasar malam stall run by a couple with no shop, no stable income and a matcha supply that kept changing quality on them.
For a long stretch they were barely breaking even. No permanent shop meant packing in and out of a different pasar malam every couple of weeks, and the matcha they could get at that scale was inconsistent, which is a hard problem when the whole product is one ingredient.
What they did instead of waiting for the numbers to work was make drinks nobody else was doing and build a group of people who came back. That is the actual story here. Ten thousand community members is not a marketing number when it started as the same faces at the same night market.
When a mall offered them the Woodleigh space they were not sure they were ready. They signed anyway. That is usually the right call and it is almost never the comfortable one.
They have since gone further. We covered Gotcha Matcha at Jurong Point separately.
B1-K16, The Woodleigh Mall, 11 Bidadari Park Drive, Singapore 367803, open 11am to 9pm. The mall sits directly on top of Woodleigh MRT on the North East Line, so there is no walk from the station to speak of.
It is a stand, not a cafe, so there is no sitting at the stall itself. The brand also donates 5% to the Cat Welfare Society, which is unusual enough to be worth stating rather than burying.
If you want to compare it against everything else, our matcha tier list is where we put the rest of them in order.
