We filmed Angelo Wan at one of his own Unfiltered Presents parties and asked how he built it. He co-founded both Unfiltered Presents, which runs the Flashback Friday 2000s party nights, and Never Strangers, the events company that seats strangers at a table together instead of leaving them to mingle.
Angelo Wan lists himself as co-founder of both Never Strangers and Unfiltered. Unfiltered Presents is the party side, and Flashback Friday is its best known night, built around 2000s music for people who were teenagers then and have jobs now. He has said the idea came out of 2018, when he noticed nobody was running a proper 2000s club night here.
Never Strangers is the other half, started in Singapore in 2024. Everyone gets put on a table with about five other people, which removes the worst part of any social event, which is standing at the edge deciding who to talk to. It has since run events in Malaysia too.
Both companies are the same bet made twice: pick one specific feeling people want, then design the whole night around delivering it. A 2000s playlist is not a business. A room full of people who all wanted that playlist is.
That is the same thing we run into with drops. The product matters less than whether the thing is genuinely for a specific group of people. We wrote about our own version of that in how we got to 10 million monthly views.
This one is part of a founder interview series that runs on @heritage__sg rather than our main account. The plan is simple: sit with people who have actually built something here and ask the questions we would want answered ourselves.
· Go to the event before you pitch the founder. It is the only way to know if the room works.
· Flashback Friday is the entry point if you want to see Unfiltered Presents in action.
· Never Strangers seats you with strangers on purpose. Do not go expecting to hide with your own group.
