First Date Ideas in Singapore (2026): 10 Low-Pressure Plans

The three best first dates in Singapore are a walk through the National Gallery (free for Singaporeans and PRs, by City Hall MRT), Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay (free, 7.45pm and 8.45pm most nights, with special editions around Christmas), and the Henderson Waves walk at dusk. Every plan below has a natural end and an MRT close by, so leaving early is easy and staying late is easier.

In this article
  1. Daytime first dates that end easily
  2. Evening first dates
  3. If it goes well: dinner

A good first date has three things: something to look at so the silence is not awkward, a clear end point, and a way to extend it if it is going well. Daytime is lower stakes. Once you are past the first few, move on to our date ideas for couples by budget.

1. National Gallery Singapore
Where: 1 St Andrew's Road. MRT: City Hall Exit B, about a 7-minute walk. Hours: 10am to 7pm daily, last admission 6.30pm. Price: general admission free for Singaporeans, PRs, kids 6 and under and Singapore-based students; $20 standard, $15 for kids 7 to 12 and seniors. Exit: City Hall MRT.

You always have something to talk about, and "should we get coffee?" is the easy extension. If it is not working, an hour is a perfectly normal length for a gallery.

2. Peranakan Museum
Where: Armenian Street. MRT: City Hall or Bras Basah. Hours: 10am to 7pm daily, Fridays to 9pm. Price: permanent galleries free for Singaporeans and PRs. Exit: City Hall or Bras Basah MRT.

Smaller than the National Gallery, so it is a 45-minute commitment. The colours give you plenty to point at.

3. Singapore Botanic Gardens
Where: Singapore Botanic Gardens, Tanglin. MRT: Botanic Gardens. Hours: 5am to midnight daily. Price: free; the National Orchid Garden (8.30am to 7pm) is $5 for locals, $15 standard. Exit: Botanic Gardens MRT.

A walk side by side takes pressure off eye contact. Do the Orchid Garden ($5 for locals) so there is a reason to be there.

4. Fort Canning Park
Where: Fort Canning Park. MRT: Fort Canning. Hours: park open 24 hours; Fort Canning Heritage Gallery 10am to 6pm, closed the last Monday of the month. Price: free. Exit: Fort Canning or Dhoby Ghaut MRT.

The free Heritage Gallery gives you a 20-minute anchor, then the park does the rest. Shade everywhere, which matters more than you think.

Evening first dates

5. Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay
Where: Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay. MRT: Gardens by the Bay (TE22) Exit 1, or Bayfront Exit B. Hours: shows at 7.45pm and 8.45pm most nights, with special editions around Christmas; outdoor gardens open 5am to 2am. Price: free. Exit: Bayfront MRT.

The show is the plan. You do not need to talk the whole time, which is the point. If it is going well, there is a lot of garden to keep walking.

6. Spectra at Marina Bay Sands
Where: Event Plaza, Marina Bay Sands waterfront. MRT: Bayfront. Hours: Sunday to Thursday 8pm and 9pm, Friday and Saturday 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. MBS swaps in special editions on some nights, check its page. Price: free. Exit: Bayfront MRT.

A 15-minute show is a good test. If you want more, walk the waterfront. If not, the train is right there.

7. Free shows at the Esplanade
Where: Esplanade, Marina Bay. MRT: Esplanade. Hours: free shows on the Concourse almost daily, and at the Outdoor Theatre on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Price: free. Exit: Esplanade MRT.

Live music fills the gaps in conversation. Check what is on before you go so you are not walking into a genre one of you hates.

8. Henderson Waves at dusk
Where: Telok Blangah Hill Park, Southern Ridges. MRT: Telok Blangah or HarbourFront, then an uphill walk; NParks lists it off Henderson Road. Hours: NParks suggests mornings or evenings; the bridge lights come on at 7pm. Price: free. Best for: two people who like walking.

Only pick this if you both said you like hiking. A sweaty, steep walk is a bonding experience or a disaster, nothing in between.

If it goes well: dinner

9. Satay Street at Lau Pa Sat
Where: Lau Pa Sat, 18 Raffles Quay. MRT: Downtown. Hours: the market is open 24 hours; Satay Street on Boon Tat Street runs weekdays 7pm to 3am, weekends 3pm to 3am. Halal status: varies by stall.

The casual extension. Splitting a plate of satay is low commitment, and nobody expects a first date to go somewhere fancy.

10. Epicurean Fusion
Where: 4 Jalan Klapa, Kampong Glam. MRT: Bugis. Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 12.30pm, last booking 8pm, closed Mondays. Halal status: Muslim-owned, halal food, not MUIS certified. Price: tandoori chicken pizza $24, butter chicken gnocchi $25, beef Wellington $38. Group size: up to 6.

A sit-down place in Kampong Glam that works if either of you eats halal. Book it for 7.30pm on a weekday and catch the deal: Tue to Fri: 10% off food at 12:30pm and from 5:30pm to 7pm, 15% off at 1:30pm, 2pm, 7:30pm and 8pm. Drinks not included, no discounts on weekends or public holidays. Only 5 bookings per timing. Book Epicurean Fusion free.

Good to know

· Pick a plan with a fixed end time, like a show or a gallery closing. It removes the "so, what now?" moment.

· Choose somewhere on an MRT line you both use. The ride home should not be a second date.

· Book dinner as a maybe. Eventful Tables bookings are free, so it costs nothing to have one ready.
