Start with Maxwell Food Centre (103 cooked food stalls), Old Airport Road (168) and Chinatown Complex (226, the biggest by NEA's count). Below are 13 hawker centres by area, with NEA's own addresses and stall numbers, the Michelin-listed stalls worth the queue, and each centre's next cleaning closure so you don't turn up to shutters.

NEA counts 103 cooked food stalls and traces the centre's roots to 1935. The Michelin name here is Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice, #01-10/11, a 2026 Bib Gourmand. It is the easiest first hawker centre for visitors: one block, one MRT exit, done in half an hour. Next NEA cleaning closure: 14 December 2026. Our chicken rice ranking has Tian Tian's rivals.
Chinatown Complex, Blk 335 Smith Street, near Chinatown MRT. NEA calls it the largest hawker centre in Singapore, 703 stalls in all, with 226 cooked food stalls, most on the second floor. Michelin has listed Lian He Ben Ji Claypot (#02-198/199) and Ann Chin Handmade Popiah (#02-112). Honest warning: it is a maze, so pick two stalls before you go. Closed for cleaning 16 to 17 November 2026. More in our Chinatown food guide.
Amoy Street Food Centre, National Development Building Annex B, Telok Ayer Street, a short walk from Telok Ayer MRT (DT18). Built in 1983, 134 cooked food stalls over two floors, and NEA describes it as the CBD lunch favourite. That is also the catch: come before noon. A Noodle Story (#01-39) is the Michelin-listed pick. Cleaning closure: 12 to 13 December 2026.
Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, Blk 531A Upper Cross Street, near Chinatown MRT, has 103 cooked food stalls. NEA lists bak kut teh, crayfish hor fun, curry chicken noodles and fish head bee hoon as the famous dishes. Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa (#02-66) featured in a 2017 Michelin piece. Its Q4 cleaning ran 5 to 7 October, so no more planned closures this year.
Tiong Bahru Market, 30 Seng Poh Road, about a 10-minute walk from Tiong Bahru MRT (EW17). Market downstairs, 83 cooked food stalls on level 2. Michelin-listed: Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice (#02-82) and Jian Bo Shui Kueh (#02-05). Go for breakfast, it is a morning market. Cleaning closure: 16 November 2026. See our Tiong Bahru food guide.
ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre, Blk 6 Jalan Bukit Merah, built 1974, 96 cooked food stalls. Redhill MRT (EW18) is the closest, about a 15-minute walk. Jason Penang Cuisine (#01-112) holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its assam laksa. A neighbourhood centre, so less of a scrum than Maxwell. Closed 14 to 15 December 2026.
Adam Road Food Centre, 2 Adam Road, a 5-minute walk from Botanic Gardens MRT. Only 32 stalls, and NEA names BBQ seafood, nasi lemak and prawn noodles as the draws. Small, so the queue at the famous nasi lemak decides your wait. Closed 7 to 8 December 2026.
Newton Food Centre, 500 Clemenceau Ave North, by Newton MRT (NS21/DT11). 83 stalls, busiest at dinner and supper. Alliance Seafood (#01-27) is a 2026 Bib Gourmand. Ask the price before they cook. Closed 7 to 8 December 2026.

Old Airport Road Food Centre, Blk 51 Old Airport Road, about 5 minutes from Dakota MRT (CC8). Built in 1973, 168 cooked food stalls on one floor. Michelin-listed stalls include Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee (#01-32) and Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow (#01-12). If you only have one hawker meal in the east, it is this one. Cleaning takes four days: 7 to 10 December 2026.
Geylang Serai Market, 1 Geylang Serai, near Paya Lebar MRT. 63 cooked food stalls and NEA notes the design borrows from rural Malay architecture. The place for nasi padang, mee rebus and kueh. Closed 14 to 16 December 2026. Our Geylang food guide covers the streets around it.
East Coast Lagoon Food Village, 1220 East Coast Parkway, inside East Coast Park. 63 stalls; NEA lists satay, BBQ seafood, chicken wings and satay bee hoon. No MRT at the door, so plan on about 20 minutes from Bayshore MRT, across the ECP, or cycle in. Its Q4 cleaning was 12 to 14 October, so it is clear for the rest of 2026.
Chomp Chomp Food Centre, 20 Kensington Park Road, Serangoon Gardens. Just 36 stalls, and NEA describes it as a dinner and supper spot known for char kway teow, BBQ chicken wings and seafood. Lorong Chuan MRT (CC14) is about 20 minutes on foot, or a short bus ride, so most people drive or cab. Closed 14 to 16 December 2026. More late food in our supper spots list and the Serangoon Gardens guide.
