Northpoint City is two malls joined in the middle. The North Wing is the original Northpoint, the South Wing is the newer block sitting on top of Yishun MRT and the bus interchange, and between them the mall has 180 places to eat. Frasers calls it the largest mall in the north, and on the food count alone that is hard to argue with.
The wing matters more than the floor here. Both wings have a Basement 1 and a Basement 2 full of food, so every place below carries its wing as well as its unit number. Six of the 180 sit in Yishun 10 and Yishun Town Square, the two small blocks beside the mall that share its directory. Three places run 24 hours and HaiDiLao goes to 4am, so this is also where Yishun eats supper.

The list, floor by floor
1. Tai Cheong Bakery
The Hong Kong egg tart people, going since 1954. The crust is cookie style rather than flaky, which their founder pioneered, and the tart is at its best warm. Buy a box for the train home and do not expect it to survive the trip.
2. Kopitiam
The North Wing food court, two floors down, open from 7am. More than 20 stalls, and the mall's own listing names Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang, King Grouper Fish Soup, Shami Banana Leaf and Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh among them. Breakfast here before the shops open is the move.
3. Din Tai Fung
The Taiwanese dumpling chain, in the South Wing basement. Order the xiao long bao and the fried rice with shrimp and egg, which is what the queue is really for. Last orders are 9pm, 9.15pm on Friday and Saturday, so do not stroll in at 9.30 expecting dumplings.
4. Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles
Lanzhou beef noodles, the hand pulled kind, in a clear broth built on a 15 spice stock. Halal certified, which the original Hui Muslim dish always was. One bowl is a full lunch and it comes fast, so it suits a solo eater on a schedule.
5. HaiDiLao Hot Pot
Open 10.30am to 4am every day, which makes it the latest kitchen in Yishun by a distance. The hotpot is the hotpot you know. The point is the service, and the sauce bar you build yourself. Bring a group and go late, that is what the hours are for.
6. Malaysia Boleh!
A food hall done up like a Malaysian street, with the stalls named after the towns their dishes come from: Penang char kway teow, Damansara chilli ban mee, Kuantan nasi lemak. Cheaper than a restaurant, more interesting than a food court, and it runs to 10pm.
7. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh
Teochew style bak kut teh, so the soup is clear and peppery rather than dark and herbal. Song Fa started as a pushcart in 1969 and their own site still tells that story. Get the ribs and the you tiao to dunk. Opens 10.30am at weekends, 11am on weekdays.
8. Ayam Penyet President
Indonesian smashed fried chicken with a sambal their own description warns packs a punch, and it does. Order the avocado juice to put the fire out, it is on the menu for exactly that reason. Halal certified, casual, quick, and cheap enough for a weekday.
9. Sakunthala's Restaurant
North and South Indian on a banana leaf: thosai, briyani, fish head curry, butter chicken, tandoori. Halal certified and open 9.30am to 10.30pm. The mall's directory files it under Yishun Town Square rather than either wing, so it is a short walk from the main building, not inside it.
10. Old Chang Kee
Curry puffs, sotong wings and crab claws from the counter on the North Wing ground floor, open from 6am on weekdays, before the food courts. The curry puff is the one with the slice of egg inside, and it is still the best thing they make.
11. Encik Tan
Halal versions of the Chinese hawker classics, curry rice, wanton mee, ban mian, claypot rice, in a small food atrium on the North Wing ground floor. Open 24 hours, which is the real reason to know it. This is where Yishun eats at 3am.
12. Xin Wang Hong Kong Café
Hong Kong cafe food, dim sum and tea time snacks alongside local dishes, from 8am to midnight, and to 2am on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast, supper, and every hour in between when nothing else fits. One big menu, the same all day.
13. Dian Xiao Er
Herbal roast duck is the dish, roasted daily and served with their own herbal sauce, and their site will tell you the same. Order the duck and treat the rest of the menu as the zi char you would expect. Fast service, so it works for a family dinner on a school night.
14. Bagus Food Hall by Kopitiam
The South Wing food court, and the whole hall is halal certified, so a mixed group can sit anywhere and order from any stall. 9am to 10pm daily. The cheap, quick answer on the South Wing side.
15. Yakiniku Shokudo
Japanese barbecue you grill yourself, wagyu beef and chicken, and halal certified, which is the reason to know it if you have been skipping yakiniku. Runs 10.30am to 10.30pm. Go with two or three people so you can order across the menu.
16. Nakhon Kitchen
Thai food at weeknight prices, which is the whole pitch and their own description says as much. The menu is the classics done straight, nothing reinvented. Good for a table of four who want to share a few dishes and not think too hard about the bill.
17. PUTIEN
Fujian food, lighter and cleaner than most Chinese restaurant cooking here. The Kitchener Road original holds a Michelin star, seven years running by their own site's count, and this outlet cooks the same menu: the seafood lor mee, the 100 second stewed yellow croaker, the bian rou soup. It closes between lunch and dinner on weekdays, 3pm to 5.30pm.
18. Seoul Garden
Halal Korean barbecue and steamboat buffet on the top floor of the North Wing. It is the group and family option rather than the date option: grill at the table, keep going until last order at 9.45pm. Seoul Garden HotPot next door at #03-06 is the same company's steamboat only version.

The South Wing is the newer block on top of Yishun MRT and the bus interchange, and it holds most of the sit-down restaurants: Din Tai Fung, HaiDiLao, Malaysia Boleh!, Nakhon Kitchen and Yakiniku Shokudo are all there. The North Wing has Kopitiam, Song Fa, PUTIEN, Seoul Garden and the 24 hour Encik Tan. Both wings have food on Basement 1 and Basement 2, so check the wing before the unit number.

The two food courts first, then the basement counters. North Wing Basement 1 is a run of quick stalls: Ya Kun Kaya Toast at #B1-22/23/24, Fun Toast at #B1-05, Nam Kee Pau at #B1-18, Shihlin Taiwan Street Food at #B1-44. South Wing Basement 2 is the snack strip: Hong Lim Curry Puff at #B2-126, Mr Bean at #B2-130, Munchi Pancakes at #B2-147, Pezzo at #B2-152. Malaysia Boleh! at South Wing #B1-194/195 is the cheapest place to sit down properly.
