Where to Take Your Parents in Singapore (2026): 10 Easy Picks

The three best places to take your parents in Singapore are the Singapore Botanic Gardens (free, and the Orchid Garden is $1 for local seniors), the National Museum (free for Singaporeans and PRs), and a 40-minute Singapore River Cruise ($28). Below are 10 comfortable picks with short walks, plenty of seats, a few nostalgia trips and early dinners that start from 5pm.

Plan around three things: shade, toilets and somewhere to sit every 20 minutes. Mornings are better than afternoons for all of them. Out with the grandkids as well? Our guide to going out with kids has spots that work for three generations.

1. Singapore Botanic Gardens and the Orchid Garden
Where: Singapore Botanic Gardens, Tanglin. MRT: Botanic Gardens. Hours: 5am to midnight daily. Price: free; the National Orchid Garden (8.30am to 7pm) is $5 for locals, $15 standard. Local seniors pay $1 for the Orchid Garden.

Go at 8am. The paths are flat and wide, there are benches everywhere, and the orchids give the camera-happy parent something to do.

2. Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay
Where: Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay. MRT: Gardens by the Bay (TE22) Exit 1, or Bayfront Exit B. Hours: 9am to 9pm daily, last admission 8.30pm, closed one day a month for maintenance. Price: paid, with lower rates for residents.

Cool, dry and full of flowers. A good place for a parent who hates the heat. Check the maintenance closure date before you go.

3. Fort Canning Park
Where: Fort Canning Park. MRT: Fort Canning. Hours: park open 24 hours; Fort Canning Heritage Gallery 10am to 6pm, closed the last Monday of the month. Price: free.

The Heritage Gallery is free and air-conditioned, and the park around it has paths under big trees, with some slopes.

Nostalgia trips

4. Tiong Bahru Market
Where: 30 Seng Poh Road. MRT: Tiong Bahru. Hours: each stall keeps its own. Halal status: varies by stall.

It opened in 1951 as Seng Poh Road Market, so there is a good chance your parents have their own stories about it. Let them order for you.

5. Chinatown and Maxwell Food Centre
Where: Pagoda Street and Maxwell Food Centre, 1 Kadayanallur Street. MRT: Chinatown or Maxwell. Hours: hawker stalls keep their own hours.

Walk Pagoda Street slowly, then sit down for lunch at Maxwell. Ask what Chinatown looked like when they were young, and you will get an hour of stories.

6. Old Airport Road Food Centre
Where: Old Airport Road Food Centre, Blk 51 Old Airport Road. MRT: Dakota. Hours: each stall keeps its own. Halal status: varies by stall.

Completed in 1973, it is one of the hawker centres that parents of a certain age have strong opinions about. Bring cash and patience.

7. National Museum of Singapore
Where: Stamford Road, by Fort Canning. MRT: Bras Basah. Hours: 10am to 7pm daily, last entry before closing, check the museum's site for the cut-off. Price: permanent galleries free for Singaporeans and PRs.

The museum where parents point at things and say "we had that." It is air-conditioned, and you set the pace.

Cool indoor afternoons

8. Peranakan Museum
Where: Armenian Street. MRT: City Hall or Bras Basah. Hours: 10am to 7pm daily, Fridays to 9pm. Price: permanent galleries free for Singaporeans and PRs.

Smaller and calmer than the big museums, so it does not wear anyone out. Good for a Peranakan family or anyone who grew up with kueh.

9. Singapore River Cruise
Where: Clarke Quay Jetty. MRT: Clarke Quay. Ride: 40 minutes. Price: $28 adult, $18 child aged 3 to 11. Singaporeans get a discount with NRIC, and there are four jetties; Clarke Quay is the usual start.

Forty minutes sitting down with the city sliding past. Ideal for the parent who has stopped wanting to walk by 4pm.

Early dinners

Most parents want to eat at 5.30pm and be home by 8. These open early and take bookings.

10. Family Mookata or Family Hakata
Where: AMK (Blk 215 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1), Jurong West (Blk 429 Jurong West Ave 1) or Yishun (6 Yishun Industrial Street 1), each inside a coffeeshop or food court. Hours: 1pm to 11pm daily, last orders 9.30pm. Price: $19.90 nett per adult (minimum 2), $14.90 for kids 100cm to 140cm. Not halal.
Family Hakata (halal, MUIS certified): Blk 728 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6, same hours and prices.

An early dinner is cheaper here: Mon to Fri, 1pm to 4pm: 10% off all food. Mon to Thu, 5pm to 8pm: 5% off. Drinks not included, no discounts on public holidays. Only 5 bookings per timing. The charcoal pan means everyone cooks at their own pace, which parents tend to like. Book Family Mookata AMK or Family Hakata free.

Where to eat: For something quieter, Epicurean Fusion in Kampong Glam gives 10% off food from 5.30pm to 7pm on Tuesday to Friday. Where: 4 Jalan Klapa, Kampong Glam. MRT: Bugis. Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 12.30pm, last booking 8pm, closed Mondays. Halal status: Muslim-owned, halal food, not MUIS certified. Book Epicurean Fusion free. KANTIN at Jewel opens at 11am for a long lunch instead: book KANTIN free.
