If you can't decide what to eat today, take Makan Match at eventful-sg.com/makan-match: 8 two-button questions, 15 Singapore spots that fit, under two minutes, free and with no app. It works because it asks about your mood (jelak or light, aircon or not, budget) instead of making you name a dish when your brain is already empty.
Ask anyone what they want to eat and you get "anything". Then you suggest something and it is suddenly not anything. Makan Match skips that step. It asks things you can answer without thinking: do you want something jelak or light, are you feeling rich today, do you want traditional or trendy. The dish falls out of the answers.
If you already know you want a full dinner plan, our Makan Match guide covers the whole quiz.

For a normal weekday, these are some of the places in the quiz's hand-picked list that come up when you keep the budget under $50:
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice, Maxwell Food Centre. Chicken rice since 1986. The Maxwell stall is closed Mondays. There is also a Jewel outlet open till 10pm, if you are near the airport (our Jewel food guide has more).
Liao Fan Hawker Chan. Soya sauce chicken rice, the dish that made its name.
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Started as a pushcart in 1969. The New Bridge Road outlet got a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026.
Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King, Orchid Hotel, Tanjong Pagar. Walk-ins only, open for lunch and dinner.
Sushiro. Japan's conveyor-belt sushi chain, several outlets.
Nakhon Kitchen. Thai food, several outlets.
Two Blur Guys, Jalan Besar and Havelock II. Burgers, daily 12pm to 9.45pm.
Honest opinion: if you answer light, traditional and below $50, chicken rice or bak kut teh is the right call nine times out of ten. The quiz just saves you the argument.
Flip one answer and the list moves. Tap trendy instead of traditional and you start seeing cafes and newer kitchens. Tap healthy and you get places like Whole Earth on Peck Seah Street, plant-based Peranakan, which its site says has held a Bib Gourmand since 2016. Tap buffet and the free-flow spots come in.
If one of your 15 has a Book button, it is an Eventful Tables restaurant you can book on the spot, like KANTIN at Jewel for Sarawak laksa. Read what Sarawak laksa is if you have never had it.
· Lunch in the CBD? Answer "just me or two of us" so the quiz stops suggesting group hotpot.
· Hawker stalls sell out. Check the Google link on the card before you walk over.
· Retake it if the first list is off. Tied spots get shuffled, so you will see new names.
