Tommy Wong, known online as @tommynbcb, is the Singaporean actor, skit creator and founder of Nothing But Cheeseburger (NBCB). Our December 2025 post said he grew to 224k followers in three years, and shared three things he tells anyone starting a business or a channel.
If you are Singaporean you have probably seen him, playing the strict Asian dad in a skit or acting in Money No Enough 3 and the Channel 5 drama Provocative. Before all that, NBCB started as a home burger business during Covid, cheeseburgers he made for his pregnant wife, which became a restaurant in 2022.
The bit people do not see: most of his skits are shot in one take. That means standing at a door, opening it and closing it, sometimes for three hours, until the take is right. We did a similar founder piece with Angelo Wan's business advice if you want another one.
Sounds like the opposite of normal advice. His point is about content. Spontaneity is the whole thing, and if you have to drag yourself to film it, the lack of enthusiasm will show on camera. Viewers can tell.
So if an idea does not excite you enough to shoot it now, drop it and wait for one that does.
He has done more than 2,000 videos and says he has never once thought, this one confirm viral. Virality is not guaranteed. Quality content is the only part you control, so that is where the effort goes.
Two thousand videos is also the lesson. Nobody gets 224k followers on video number twelve.
This one is for the founders. His benchmark is the BCM stall that opens at 8am and sells out by 1pm with zero marketing. Marketing gets people through the door once. The food is what makes them come back.
Coming from a man who built his burger brand on TikTok, that is worth hearing. The videos brought people in, the cheeseburger had to do the rest. LiHO's founder said something close to it when we spoke to him.
· Film the idea while you still care about it.
· Count your videos, not your viral ones.
· Fix the product before you pay for ads.
