With 48 hours in Singapore, spend day one at Jewel and Marina Bay (the Rain Vortex, then Garden Rhapsody at 7.45pm and Spectra at 9pm) and day two on the Botanic Gardens, a hawker lunch at Maxwell, the National Gallery and Kampong Glam. Below is the full plan with times, prices for visitors, and Jewel slotted in on arrival or departure.

In this article
  1. Day 1 afternoon: land and go to Jewel
  2. Day 1 evening: Marina Bay
  3. Day 2: gardens, hawkers, history
  4. Departure: Jewel on the way out

Jewel connects straight into the Terminal 1 arrival hall and is open 24 hours, no boarding pass needed. If your flight lands by early afternoon, do it now. If not, save it for departure day (see the last section).

1. Jewel Rain Vortex
Where: Jewel Changi Airport, 78 Airport Boulevard. MRT: Changi Airport. Hours: Rain Vortex 10am to 10pm; light and music show Monday to Thursday at 8pm and 9pm, Friday to Sunday, public holidays and their eves at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. Price: free. Best for: the first hour off the plane.

Jewel calls it the world's tallest indoor waterfall: water drops 40 metres through seven storeys. See it in daylight first, then come back for a light show if you can.

2. Lunch at KANTIN
Where: #05-206/207 Jewel Changi Airport. MRT: Changi Airport. Hours: 11am to 10pm daily, last seating 9.30pm. Not halal. Price: Sarawak laksa $24, ikan balut $16, coconut shake $12.

A first meal you will not find at home, unless home is Sarawak. KANTIN bills itself as Singapore's only Bornean kitchen. Book KANTIN free. Every other option is in our Jewel food guide.

Day 1 evening: Marina Bay

3. Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay
Where: Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay. MRT: Gardens by the Bay (TE22) Exit 1, or Bayfront Exit B. Hours: shows at 7.45pm and 8.45pm most nights, with special editions around Christmas; outdoor gardens open 5am to 2am. Price: free. The Cloud Forest and Flower Dome are paid and open 9am to 9pm (last admission 8pm for the Cloud Forest and 8.30pm for the Flower Dome, and each dome closes one day a month) if you want to go in before.

Get to Supertree Grove by 7.30pm. It is free and it is the picture of Singapore you have already seen, only better in person.

4. Spectra at Marina Bay Sands
Where: Event Plaza, Marina Bay Sands waterfront. MRT: Bayfront. Hours: Sunday to Thursday 8pm and 9pm, Friday and Saturday 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. MBS swaps in special editions on some nights, check its page. Price: free.

Walk over after the 7.45pm Rhapsody and you are in time for the 9pm Spectra. Two free shows, one evening.

5. Late supper at Satay Street
Where: Lau Pa Sat, 18 Raffles Quay. MRT: Downtown. Hours: the market is open 24 hours; Satay Street on Boon Tat Street runs weekdays 7pm to 3am, weekends 3pm to 3am. Halal status: varies by stall.

Your first hawker meal, outdoors on a closed-off street. Order satay by the dozen and a cold drink, then sleep.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the coolest part of your trip, literally, if you go early. The Orchid Garden is worth the $15.

7. Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre
Where: 1 Kadayanallur Street, Chinatown. MRT: Maxwell. Hours: each stall keeps its own. Halal status: varies by stall.

Walk the stalls once before you queue. Then walk up through Chinatown after, Pagoda Street is a short walk away.
