Ombak KLCC: What Is Actually Worth Seeing in KL's New Mall

The rooftop sky garden is the reason to go

The sky garden sits on level seven and gives you the Twin Towers from an angle almost nobody is shooting from yet. Our post put it at 3,501 square metres.

It is free, it is outdoors, and it is a five-minute walk from Suria KLCC through a covered link, so it slots into a normal KLCC afternoon without a detour. If you are coming from KLCC Park side, there is a buggy service running through the park every 30 minutes.

Go late afternoon. The towers face you and the light is behind them at midday, which is how you end up with a silhouette instead of a photo.

Galeri Petronas moved here, and it is still opening in stages

Galeri Petronas has relocated from Suria KLCC and takes four floors, about 126,356 square feet, which makes it the mall's cultural anchor rather than a side attraction.

It has been opening in phases since 21 August. The current public piece is The Blueprint in Motion, panels you scan with your phone to trigger augmented-reality displays, plus the first GALERI Shop merchandise. A rooftop park for outdoor installations is expected around the end of 2027, so the full version is a while away.

The building itself is worth a look on the way through: architect Mustafa Chehabeddine designed it around waves and traditional weaving, which is where the name comes from. Ombak is Malay for wave.

Nintendo and Pokemon pop-ups, from 12 September

Nintendo's own site confirms it: the Nintendo POP-UP STORE, the first in Malaysia, runs at Ombak KLCC from 12 September to the end of December 2026. Games and character merchandise, items brought in from Japan, and Malaysia-exclusive Mario designs. A Pokemon Center pop-up opens alongside it. Nintendo says further details are still to be announced, so unit number and opening hours are not published yet.

If you have been to the Nintendo pop-ups elsewhere in the region you know the drill: the queue is worst in the first fortnight and on weekends, and the Malaysia-exclusive items go first.
