What Decker's is

It started life as Triple Decker, a pop up that built a following in KL from 2024, and reopened as Decker's with its first permanent outlet at REXKL on 20 September 2025. The rename came with a wider menu: the beef is still the point, but there is now a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, a falafel burger and loaded fries, so a table where one person does not eat beef still works.

The method is the standard smash technique done properly. Balls of 100% Angus beef go onto a hot griddle and get pressed flat, which spreads the surface area and gives you the crusted edge that a thick pub patty never gets. Burgers sit roughly in the RM20 to RM45 range depending on how many patties you stack. This is day three of our nine day Malaysia trip, and it is the first burger that made us stop filming and just eat.

The ice cream is a separate reason to go

Decker's works with sōfte, a KL soft serve outfit, on flavours you will not get at a burger chain. Butter Pecan and Calamansi Asam Boi are on that list, and so is a French Fries flavour, which sounds like a stunt and is the one everybody orders. There is a vegan option in the range too, which pairs with the falafel burger.

REXKL itself is worth the detour

The building is the old Rex Theatre on Jalan Sultan, which dates back to before 1947 and burned down twice, in 1972 and again in 2002. It sat derelict until a group of creative entrepreneurs led by Shin Tseng and Shin Chang reactivated the 60,000 square foot space as a community and cultural hub.

So you get a bookstore, exhibitions, screenings and food under one roof, which means Decker's is not a standalone trip. Budget an hour after eating rather than walking straight back out.
