What is actually happening, and when

The site at 50 Punggol East, off Tebing Lane, sits on state land. City Sprouts held the tenancy from 1 October 2022 to 31 December 2026 and got formal notice in May 2026 to vacate and carry out reinstatement works. Tenants were told in the middle of the year, and the date most of them are working to is 31 October 2026, when trading stops and units go back to City Sprouts. City Sprouts then clears the site and returns it by 31 December.

A few operators have said their own last days sit earlier or later than that, so if there is one stall you specifically want to eat at, check that business directly rather than assuming everything runs to the end of October. This is the same pattern we watched with the malls that have already gone, and with Snow City closing on 30 September 2026. A lease ends, the land is worth more as flats, and the thing everyone assumed would always be there stops.

Why people are upset about this one

Because it was not a mall. It was shipping containers on a plot at the edge of Punggol with prawning, a yabby pond, live music on some nights, tables outside, and an actual reason to be there after dark. Nothing in a new HDB town replaces that quickly, and the north-east already lost plenty when the older kampong-side spots went.

City Sprouts' own statement put it plainly: they are heartbroken to leave a place they spent years building with everyone who was part of it. That is more honest than most closure notices get.

Go before the end of October

Weeknights are the version worth going for. Weekends from about 7pm the car park is full and the tables outside are gone. Bring cash, some of the smaller stalls there have never been consistent with cards, and the prawning charges by the hour.

Take photos of the container facades while they are up. Once reinstatement starts there is nothing left to photograph, and the site is fenced.
