S-tier: McSpicy, Nasi Lemak Burger, McGriddles and Seaweed Shaker Fries. A-tier: Filet-O-Fish, Sea Salt McFlurry, Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Burger and McNuggets. B-tier: Big Mac and McChicken. C-tier: Veggie Crunch Burger and Salted Egg Fries. That is the official McDonald's Singapore tier list, okay not really, and the caption was "don't let bro rate again", which is what the comments said about the Big Mac.
McSpicy is the national burger and the only fast food item in Singapore that people describe by what it did to them the next morning. Non-negotiable S. The Nasi Lemak Burger is seasonal, comes back with the sambal a little different every time, and still sells out, which is more than any limited-run item deserves. McGriddles are S because the maple-syrup bun with sausage and egg is the only reason to be at McDonald's before 11am. Seaweed Shaker Fries are the fourth: a paper bag, a sachet of seaweed powder, and a shake, and somehow it is better than every loaded-fries thing they have tried since.
Filet-O-Fish is A because it is exactly the same every single time, which is a compliment. Sea Salt McFlurry is A for the salt, not the blue, and it is one of the few dessert-kiosk items worth the queue. Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Burger sits in A behind the McSpicy on the chicken ladder, and McNuggets are A on the strength of the curry sauce alone, which we have covered in the bottled curry sauce saga.
Big Mac in B is the controversial one. It is a fine burger. It is also the most forgettable thing on a Singapore McDonald's menu, and if you order it here over a McSpicy you are on holiday. McChicken is B because it is the McSpicy without the point.
Veggie Crunch Burger is C because the patty is a hash brown with ambitions. Salted Egg Fries are C because salted egg fries need to be wet, and these are a dry powder pretending. Both get ordered once, then never again.
The last slide promised a matcha tier list next, and that one exists now: the best matcha in Singapore, ranked. Our other tier lists, from pasar malam food to Ministry of Spud, are in the same spirit: one person's honest scores, argue in the comments.
· McGriddles are breakfast only, before 11am. Plan around it.
· Seaweed Shaker Fries and the Nasi Lemak Burger are seasonal. Check the app before you go.
· Order the McSpicy with extra chilli sauce. It is free and it is the whole point.
· Skip the Salted Egg Fries. Get regular fries and the curry sauce instead.
