What the Makan Pets quiz asks you

It is a day, not a questionnaire. You start at 8.32am picking your morning drink, then you chope a seat at the hawker centre, then you face the uncle at the cai fan stall. Later you pick your mala spice level, choose an afternoon snack, react to a friend sending you the new viral cafe, get through the ride home and land at supper.

Eight questions, roughly two minutes. There is no right answer and no scoring you can game, which is the point. It came out of the same work as our reservations app for small Singapore F&Bs, so the questions are about how you actually eat here, not generic food-quiz filler.

The six foodie personalities

The Shiok Sambal, whose whole personality is eating spicy. Kiasu King, who calls it strategy and not cheapo. The Big Bao, who has a second stomach for dessert. The Broccoli Beast, who wants to know how much protein is in it. The Aircon Angel, who cannot enjoy anything while sweating. The Atas Auntie, who tells you to just order and she will pay.

Each result also tells you which character you eat best with and which one you will fight with at every meal. The Atas Auntie and Kiasu King is the funniest clash: one of them asks for a discount on the codfish.

The secret seventh character

There is a hidden one, and we are not spoiling it here. It does not come from scoring highest on anything, so you cannot grind your way to it. It unlocks only when two specific answers show up in the same run, and the silhouette we posted is a drink.

Guess it in the comments on the post and Joston said you get something special. Most people will hit it by accident, which is the whole joke.

What you get at the end

Your character card, shareable, plus the thing the quiz is actually building towards: a makan pet. The character you get on your first completed run becomes your pet's species permanently, so retakes are for fun but they will not change it. Bookings feed the pet later.
