Berempah Bros, the ayam berempah stall MasterChef Singapore Season 2 winner Derek Cheong opened at Beauty World Food Centre in January 2026, scored 7/10 for the ayam berempah, 8/10 for the fish, 7/10 for the begedil and 9/10 for the crumbs. It is $7.50 to $12 a plate, premium for a hawker, and the fish is worth the 30 minute lunch queue.
Ayam berempah, 7/10: the rempah is a 16-spice marinade and the chicken is fried properly, but it was served warm, not hot, which cost it a point. Fish berempah, 8/10: a huge fillet, and the chilli sauce is what makes it. Begedil, 7/10: decent, the potato patty needed more umami. The crumbs, 9/10: the typhoon shelter style garlic crumbs over everything are the whole point of the stall and a must add-on.
Verdict from our slide: a good spin on ayam berempah but the classic version still wins, and the fish is the one to queue for. If you like a rated list, our McDonald's menu tier list is the same format with more arguments.
Beauty World Food Centre, #04-51, 144 Upper Bukit Timah Road, S588177, 10.30am to 8.30pm daily. Beauty World MRT on the Downtown Line, exit into the centre. Plates run $7.50 for chicken up to $12 for the unagi, with fish and pork in between, each with coconut rice, sambal and achar. The lunch queue hit 30 minutes in the first months; 2pm to 4pm is the gap.
Derek Cheong won MasterChef Singapore Season 2 and has opened several concepts since, including Tamagood and the Twelve Flavours private dining in Pasir Ris. This one opened 10 January 2026 and the queue has held longer than most celebrity hawker stalls manage.
· Order the fish and add the crumbs. That combination is the 8 and the 9.
· Ask for it hot. Ours came warm and it cost the chicken a point.
· Go 2pm to 4pm. The lunch queue is 30 minutes and the food centre has no aircon.
· $7.50 to $12 is premium for a hawker plate. Portions justify it, price hunters will not agree.
