Mac and cheese 11 out of 10, carbonara 11, curry chicken with rice 9, kimchi fried rice 6, the kimbaps 6. That is part 1 of our 7-Eleven Singapore ready-meal ratings, and the caption was about the thing that beat all of them and is gone: the instant mashed potato from the machine. This is opinion, from people who have eaten a lot of poly dinners out of that chiller.
Mac and cheese, 11/10: if you have not tried it, what are you doing. Carbonara penne with chicken, 11/10, same tier as the mac and cheese in a different font, which is the most accurate food review this account has written. Curry chicken with fragrant rice, 9/10, basically the Chinese version of the legendary 7-Eleven briyani. Kimchi fried rice, 6/10, honestly too dry. The kimbaps, 6/10, they are not really that great, and the packaging promises more than the rice delivers.
The comments filled in what we missed: the black pepper chicken chop spaghetti "is the only thing keeping me alive in poly", the butter chicken briyani has a fan club, the rose chicken chop pasta got a vote, and two people brought up the chawanmushi and the little Hawaiian pizza from years ago. Part 2 material.
The machine that dispensed hot mashed potato with gravy into a cup was the best 90-cent thing in any convenience store, and it is not on the menu anymore. Everyone under 30 who grew up on it has the same memory. If you are on a mama shop nostalgia run, our mama shop snacks list is the companion piece.
· Mac and cheese or carbonara. Do not overthink the chiller.
· The briyani sells out at lunch near polys and offices. Buy it at 11am or accept the curry chicken.
· Microwave times on the pack are for the store microwave. Add 20 seconds at home.
· Kimchi fried rice needs an egg. The store will not give you one.
