5 Things You Only Know If You Go to Funan

5 Things You Only Know If You Go to Funan

Love Funan, hate the bugs at the free seating. That was the caption, and if you have ever camped on Funan's steps with a laptop, you already knew where this was going. This is the Funan edition of our things you'd know series: one secret cafe, a lot of plugs, some insects, a rooftop and a football pitch where a football pitch should not be.

In this article
  1. 1. The hidden cafe on level 7
  2. 2. Plugs everywhere, and 3. the bugs
  3. 4. The rooftop view, and 5. a futsal pitch on the roof
  4. Part 4 is Jurong Point

1. The hidden cafe on level 7

Funan regulars do not tell people about the level 7 cafe, and now we have. It is Trehaus Café at #07-28, and the reason nobody finds it is that you only get there from Lift Lobby A, and it sits inside Trehaus's preschool and co-working floor. Plugs at the tables, wifi, and none of the basement noise.

The wifi matters more than it used to. Funan's own concierge page says the free shopper Wi-Fi was switched off on 1 May 2026, so outside the cafe you are on your own data. This one joins Jurong and NEX in the series, and if you came for the food, the Funan food guide is the serious version.

2. Plugs everywhere, and 3. the bugs

Funan is the only mall where the free seating area is also an office. The big steps, the benches, the corners by the windows: there is a socket near almost every one, so on a weekday afternoon half the people there are students and freelancers with a laptop and nowhere better to be.

And then, the bugs. You find the perfect seat by a plug, you open your laptop, and something lands on your arm. Every Funan regular has slapped their own ankle at least once mid-email. It is the tax you pay for free electricity, and nobody is leaving over it.

4. The rooftop view, and 5. a futsal pitch on the roof

Funan's roof garden is open 10am to 10pm daily, and you get up there from Lift Lobby B. The view is the City Hall skyline with the Singapore Flyer in the corner, and at night it is honestly one of the better free views in town. Nobody posts it, which is the whole reason it is still quiet.

Then there is The Ark Futsal, #07-37, an actual five-a-side pitch on the roof of a shopping mall in City Hall. You go up for a quiet coffee and there is a full match going on with skyscrapers behind the goal. A rooftop futsal court is, as our slide put it, actually pretty sick.

Part 4 is Jurong Point

The last slide promised Jurong Point next. Back to the west, then. While you wait, the west malls rated piece has our actual opinion on it. If we missed a Funan one, tell us on Instagram.
