Shuu Cafe at 203 Jalan Wijaya, Taman Abad, Johor Bahru is the cottage-style cafe people go to for photos, and our only regret was what we wore. The yellow brick, green door and white wooden tables do the work, so dress for them. For how the food actually scored, read our full review.
The outside is the main shot: yellow brick, a green door and a bench out front. Inside, the tables are white-painted wood, which makes flat lays easy because the plates are already cream and pastel. Our dish-by-dish verdict is in the Shuu Cafe honest review, short version: get the rosti, skip dessert.
Shoot the table from above before anyone touches the food. The rosti with the egg on top is the photogenic one.
Light and soft colours sit best against the brick and the white tables: cream, sage, pale blue, a plain linen shirt. Loud prints fight the background. We turned up in whatever we had on from the drive across and regretted it in every frame.
If you only change one thing, skip black. It turns into a hole in the middle of a very pale photo.
· Go in the late morning for softer daylight on the brick.
· It is about three minutes by car from KSL City Mall, so pair it with a mall stop.
· Opening hours have been listed differently in different places. Check the cafe's own page on the day.
