What was on the shelves

We filmed inside one of the stores. Skincare had SK-II, Kiehl's, Lancôme and La Mer. Perfume had Gucci, Maison Margiela, Marc Jacobs and Chanel, with a Chanel No 19 box in hand for the opening shot. Makeup was YSL, MAC, Dior and Estée Lauder.

The price tags we caught: SK-II Pitera sets at $88, two for $99, and $132, an Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation at $45, Marc Jacobs shelves marked 55% off, and Fino hair masks at one for $14 or three for $36. If you missed it, the same brands turned up again two weeks later at Beauty Fiesta Christmas at Expo.

The voucher catch

Our caption said gift vouchers came on top of the discounts, with the top tier a $90 voucher at $1,200 minimum spend. That is about 7.5% back, but only if you actually spend $1,200.

The in-store sign carried the small print that mattered: no use of vouchers during the sale period, and no stamps issued. So the vouchers you earned were for later, and any old ones in your wallet could not be spent that week.

Novela vs a warehouse sale

Novela is a normal mall retailer, so you got sealed stock, a counter, and no entry ticket. The trade-off is that "up to 80%" was the ceiling, and the percentage tags we caught on camera said 20% and 55%.
