Our top three rooftop bars in Singapore: CÉ LA VI on Level 57 of Marina Bay Sands (Sky Bar 4pm to 1am daily, $38 nett entry with a drink before 10pm), 1-Arden Bar on Level 51 of CapitaSpring (to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays) and Lantern at The Fullerton Bay Hotel (to 1am, smart casual). You must be 18 to drink in Singapore, and several bars below also bar under-18s after a set hour.

CÉ LA VI Sky Bar, Level 57 of Marina Bay Sands (taxi drop-off at Tower 3; Bayfront MRT). Sky Bar 4pm to 1am daily; the Club Lounge opens at noon on its own days. Entry to the Club Lounge and Sky Bar is $38 nett before 10pm and $48 nett after, each with one house pour. 18 and above from 10pm; before that, minors need an adult with them, and ID is checked at the door. Dress code: no slippers, sandals, activewear, singlets or beachwear; men need a shirt and covered shoes. Shorts are barred after 10pm in the Club Lounge on Wednesday to Saturday and eves; the Sky Bar allows tailored shorts. Sunset is when you go. After 10pm it is a club.

Spago Bar and Lounge, Level 57, Sands SkyPark, Hotel Tower 2 (Bayfront MRT). Bar Tuesday to Saturday 12pm to 1am, Sunday and Monday 12pm to midnight. 18 and above from 10pm. Casual is fine: T-shirts, jeans, sundresses. There is a $30 nett minimum spend for everyone aged 5 and up, and happy hour runs Monday to Friday, 3pm to 5.30pm. The relaxed option on the same rooftop.

Raffles Place and the CBD

1-Arden Bar, Level 51, CapitaSpring, 88 Market Street, #51-01 (Raffles Place MRT). Monday to Thursday 5pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 1am, Sunday 2pm to 10pm. Happy hour daily, 6pm to 9pm. 1-Arden calls its garden the world's highest food forest, and the cocktails use what grows there. Our pick for an after-work drink with a view.

LeVeL33, 8 Marina Boulevard, #33-01, Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1 (Downtown MRT). 12pm to 11pm daily. It bills itself as the world's highest microbrewery in a building, and the beer is brewed on site. Lower than the others, but the terrace faces the Bay head-on.

Lantern, The Fullerton Bay Hotel, 80 Collyer Quay (Raffles Place MRT). Sunday to Thursday 3pm to 1am, to 2am on the other nights; last food order 11.45pm. Smart casual. Ladies' Night on Tuesdays from 7pm, Brazilian funk barbecue on Sundays 5pm to 9pm. It is lower than the tower bars, which puts you closer to the Bay.

Kinki Rooftop Bar, Customs House, 70 Collyer Quay, #02-02 (Raffles Place MRT). Monday to Friday 5pm till late, Saturday 4pm till late, closed Sunday. Last orders 10pm for food, 10.45pm for drinks. Hours are from a contact page last dated 2024. Smart casual. A Japanese restaurant's rooftop, more casual than the hotel bars. More around here in our Telok Ayer food guide.

City Hall, Duxton and the pool bars

SKAI Bar, Level 70, Swissôtel The Stamford, 2 Stamford Road (City Hall MRT). Daily 5pm to 1am. Minimum age 18 after 6pm. DJs on Thursdays from 9pm. SKAI calls itself Singapore's highest restaurant. A good one for out-of-town guests.

Milli Sky Dining and Bar, Level 6, City Hall Wing, National Gallery Singapore (City Hall MRT). Sunday to Tuesday 11am to 1am, Wednesday to Friday 11am to 3am, Saturday and the eve of public holidays 11am to 4am. The club lounge downstairs on Level 5 opens at 6pm.

Canyon Club, Mondrian Singapore Duxton, 16A Duxton Hill (Maxwell MRT). A rooftop pool bar, daily 12pm to 11pm, open to the public. Happy hour 5.30pm to 8pm with $15++ wines, cocktails and house spirits. A daytime pool party, not a night out.

Skyline Bar, Level 5, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, 6 Raffles Boulevard (Promenade MRT). Daily 11am to 10pm, last order 9.30pm, casual attire. It is a pool deck on Level 5 rather than a tower top, so manage expectations. For dinner first, see our high tea list or supper spots open after midnight.

Good to know

· Bring ID. CÉ LA VI and Spago turn away under-18s after 10pm, and SKAI after 6pm.

· Rain closes open-air decks. Have a back-up indoor bar if the forecast looks bad.

· Go for sunset around 6.30pm to 7pm, then move on. Cover charges and crowds climb after 10pm.

· Men: shirt and covered shoes is the safe default. CÉ LA VI bars shorts after 10pm in the Club Lounge on Wednesday to Saturday and eves; the Sky Bar allows tailored shorts.
