Hougang Mall is the mall at Exit B of Hougang MRT, near Hougang Central bus interchange. It has 63 places to eat, 18 of them flagged halal certified in the mall's own store directory, and the biggest share is underground: 25 on Basement 1, nine of those kiosks.
Level 1 is drinks, desserts and quick meals, with McDonald's from 6am and Legendary Hong Kong till midnight by the mall directory. Levels 2 and 3 are where you sit down: Sushiro, Soup Restaurant, Saizeriya, Sansok and Lau Wang Claypot. The Foodies' Garden food court is on Level 4. Every place below carries its unit number and opening hours from the mall's own directory.

Taiwanese night market food: the XXL Crispy Chicken, mee sua and braised chicken rice, by the mall listing. The chicken is the order and it is big enough to share. It closes at 9.30pm by the mall directory.
A halal bakery, certified by the mall directory, from a brand the mall listing traces back to the Swee Heng Bakery of the late 1980s. Buns, cakes and loaves at neighbourhood prices. Good for tomorrow's breakfast on the way home. Open 9am to 10pm by the mall directory.

Yong tow foo from a name the mall listing dates to 1954, with noodles, steamed rice and soups. It runs 8am to 11pm by the mall directory, last order 10.30pm, an hour past the mall's own closing. That makes it the late, light dinner in the building. Cheap and quick.
Gyudon: thin-sliced beef simmered in a soy-based sauce over rice, served fast. The brand calls itself Japan's number one quick-service restaurant. Halal certified by the mall directory, and open from 8am, two hours before the mall, so it doubles as a hot breakfast. Order the beef bowl. It is built for speed, so it works for a 20-minute lunch.

Handmade steamed buns with a long list of fillings, plus glutinous rice chicken, sticky rice dumplings and siew mai, by the mall listing. A basement kiosk, so this is takeaway. Grab a pau and a lor mai kai for breakfast: it opens at 8.30am by the mall directory, before the mall does.
Indian and Mediterranean food with a lighter hand, halal certified by the mall directory. The mall listing names biryanis and butter chicken and says there is no ghee, heavy oil or added MSG. Get a biryani bowl with a dip on the side. It closes at 9.30pm by the mall directory.

A Malaysian-style kopitiam the mall listing says two brothers started in Singapore in 2022. The listing names Penang Fried Kway Teow, Penang Assam Laksa, KL Hokkien Mee and their Nanyang Fried Nasi Lemak. Get the KL Hokkien mee if you like it dark and saucy. Open 10am to 10pm by the mall directory. One of the newer arrivals on Level 1.
Legendary Hong Kong Cafe, a newer cha chaan teng spin-off of the Legendary Hong Kong restaurants, by the mall listing. The listing promises the restaurants' fan favourites plus a few dishes only the cafe serves. The mall directory gives the longest hours in the building, level with McDonald's: till 12am every day, from 9am at weekends. We could not find this outlet on the brand's own site, so the hours are the mall's.

A spin-off of Ajisen Ramen with the parent brand's ramen plus maze soba and rice sets, by the mall listing. The ramen is the safe order; the maze soba is the one to try if you have eaten Ajisen before. Open 11.30am to 10pm by the mall directory. A quick sit-down on Level 1.

Double-boiled herbal soups and home-cooked Chinese dishes, from a name the mall listing traces back to a first outlet on Smith Street in 1991. Order one soup each and two or three dishes to share. One thing to plan around: on weekdays it closes from 2.30pm to 5.30pm by the mall directory, so a late lunch here does not work. Weekends run straight through.

Conveyor belt sushi, with plates from $2.30 before service charge and GST by the mall listing. Kids pick plates off the belt and the bill stays easy to guess. The brand calls itself the world's number one sushi brand, with more than 940 outlets. It was marked new in the mall directory in October 2026, so expect a wait at weekend dinner. Go at the 11am opening or mid-afternoon.
Hunan food, chilli-hot with a sour edge, from a local chain the mall listing says has more than 20 outlets since 2009. Order the stir-fried pork , the dish the brand puts at the front of its own homepage, with plain rice. Ask for less spicy if anyone at the table is unsure. Open 11am to 10pm by the mall directory.

Korean home-style meals, new to Hougang Mall: fresh banchan, soups and charcoal-grilled mains, by the mall listing. Pick a charcoal-grilled main and let the banchan and soup fill out the meal. Lighter than Korean barbecue, and fine for a solo dinner after work. Open 11.30am to 10pm by the mall directory.

Cheap casual Italian, from a chain that calls itself a casual Italian restaurant built for repeat visits, by the mall listing. Order a pasta and a side and the bill stays small. It is marked new in the mall directory. Last order is 9.30pm by the mall directory, half an hour before closing. A safe family dinner that will not hurt the wallet.

Claypot dishes that stay hot to the last spoonful. The mall listing names Sesame Oil Chicken and Ngoh Hiang as the signatures, and says the brand started as a small stall in Yishun. Get the sesame oil chicken claypot with rice. It closes at 9.30pm by the mall directory, earlier than the mall, so do not leave dinner too late.

Local food from a name the mall listing dates to 1984. The popiah is the reason to come, rolled by hand to order, and the listing also names laksa, mee siam and nasi lemak. It opens at 8am by the mall directory, two hours before the mall. Note that this outlet is not flagged halal in the Hougang Mall directory, even though the Qi Ji at Eastpoint is.
The food court, on Level 4, and the mall directory flags it halal certified, which makes it the easy call when a mixed group cannot agree. By the mall listing it runs from hawker favourites to international food under one roof. It opens at 9am by the mall directory, an hour before the mall. It is also one of the cheapest sit-down meals in the building.
The 17 above are the ones we would send a friend to. For completeness, here is the rest of Hougang Mall's food directory, 46 more places, 63 in total. 18 of the 63 are halal certified. Unit numbers and halal certification come from Hougang Mall's own store directory and are re-checked daily, last on 15 October 2026. Opening hours are the ones the directory publishes and change without notice.
