Board game night: choose a cover, a package or a private room

Sources checked 1 November 2026

Three venues can quote three prices that mean completely different things: a cover charge, a per-person package, or a room for two. Decide how long you want to play and whether dinner or privacy matters before comparing the numbers.

This guide compares published terms, not claimed first-hand rankings. Rates were checked on 1 November; confirm the final bill and selected slot when reserving, especially on public holidays and their eves.

King and the Pawn: a cover charge with a cafe-bar menu

The cover is S$10 per person Tuesday–Thursday and S$15 on Friday or a public-holiday eve, with play until closing. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the S$15 cover is split into daytime until 6pm or evening after 6pm. Do not assume one weekend cover spans both sessions.

Game staff can recommend and teach titles. Food and drinks are separate, making this the option to consider when the meal is part of the evening. The venue lists 350-plus games across different group sizes and styles.

Find it at 17 Purvis Street, #01-01. Hours are Tuesday–Thursday 5.30pm–11.30pm, Friday 5.30pm–1.30am, Saturday 11am–1.30am and Sunday 11am–10pm.

Best fit here means choosing a cafe-bar setting and a session cover, rather than paying for a private room. Confirm the session boundary before booking an afternoon that might run into dinner.

The Mind Cafe: check what the package includes

The current rate poster lists a two-hour gaming package at S$17.90 per person, including free-flow drinks and snacks. It states that prices are subject to 10% service charge and prevailing GST. A separate gaming-only rate is S$8 per person per hour, Monday–Thursday excluding public holidays and their eves, without food or drinks.

Staff help choose games based on player count, experience and available time, then explain the rules. That makes the format useful for a group that does not want to arrive with a game already chosen.

The Mega Store is at 30 Prinsep Street, #01-01. The rate poster lists 11am–11pm Sunday–Thursday and public holidays, and 11am–3am Friday, Saturday and holiday eves. The payment FAQ lists PayNow, PayLah and NETS only, so plan your payment method.

Compare the package with the gaming-only option according to your actual length of stay and whether you want snacks. Meal packages are separate choices, not included automatically in every gaming rate.

Kommune: two-hour private-room pricing

Kommune’s boardgame room is S$32 for two people for two hours Monday–Thursday, excluding public holidays and their eves. The peak rate is S$44 for two on Friday–Sunday and holidays/eves. Additional people cost S$8 each for the two-hour package.

The room is at Orchardgateway, 277 Orchard Road, #03-18. The boardgame and contact pages list daily hours of 11.30am–11.30pm, last check-in 10.30pm. An FAQ still lists later Friday/Saturday hours, so confirm directly before planning a late-night session.

Peak reservations require non-refundable prepayment and do not allow changes. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are permitted in the rooms under the FAQ. Do not assume a boardgame booking also includes consoles or karaoke; these have separate arrangements.

Choose this format when having a private room matters more than a long cafe session. Give the venue your full group size and selected activity so the quotation matches the room you need.

Make the first game easy to start

Tell staff your player count, available time and whether the group prefers cooperation, bluffing or strategy. Choose one manageable game first rather than spending most of the paid session comparing boxes.
