What truffle brie is

Truffle brie is usually brie cut in half and layered with truffle through the middle. You get the soft, buttery brie on the outside and the earthy truffle in the centre of every slice.

Cheeselads calls its version an all-time favourite, made in-house. Its shop lists it as French cow's milk, unpasteurised. That last bit matters if you are pregnant or serving someone who is: check with your doctor before eating unpasteurised cheese.

Three ways to get it

Take it home: $22.50 for 150g from the Cheeselads online shop, before GST.

As a box: the Chloe Platter, $48, built around the truffle brie with nougats, water crackers, jam, honeycomb dip and nuts, for 1 to 2 people. The Epicurean ($169) and Jolly ($345) platters include it too, and you can add it to a Petite or Standard platter for $10. Our Cheeselads platter guide has every size.

Eat it at the restaurant

Signature Truffle Brie, $28++, on the dine-in menu at 117 Tyrwhitt Road. Order it with the Cheesemonger's Choice for two ($38++) and you have a cheese night for two before mains.

Our call: leave the brie out of the fridge 30 minutes before eating if you take it home. Cold brie tastes of nothing. At the restaurant they handle that for you, which is half the reason to go.
