Kallang Wave Mall 2028 Revamp: 21m Climbing Wall, Rooftop Padel Courts, New OCBC Square
Kallang Wave Mall is being rebuilt around sport between May 2026 and 2028, and the mall stays open the whole time. The headline is a 21-metre Climb Central wall that pokes about 10 metres above the roofline, one of Southeast Asia's tallest, plus six sheltered padel courts on the roof, a new multi-sensory playscape replacing the water playground by the first quarter of 2027, and a refreshed OCBC Square with a 3D LED screen at the Stadium MRT entrance. The comments were mostly "who asked" and "even the name is boring", which is a Kallang Wave review in itself.
What is changing, and when
Per CapitaLand's own release: works started May 2026 in phases. The rooftop playscape is due Q1 2027, Splash-N-Surf reopens Q1 2027 and the Singapore Sports Museum Q3 2027, and the whole thing finishes in 2028. New names coming in are ReFormd Group, a fitness and recovery centre, a New Balance Run Hub, a Key Power Sports flagship for XTEP, 2XU and Speedo, and Mutts & Mittens, a pet hub on the park connector side. There is a new 24-hour through-block corridor, more alfresco tables along the Stadium Park Connector, and an end-of-trip facility with showers for cyclists.
The climbing wall is the piece worth the trip. Climb Central already runs the current wall; the new one goes to 21 metres and out through the roof, with bouldering alongside.
What it means if you go now
Concert nights at the National Stadium are the main reason most people are ever inside this mall, and hoarding will be up in pockets for two years. The food options stay open, so pre-concert dinner still works; The Weeknd in October is the next big test of it. If you climb, the current Climb Central wall is still running until the switchover, and the new courts mean padel finally has a home you can reach by MRT.
Good to know
· The mall is open throughout. Concert-night dinners at Kallang Wave still work, expect hoarding.
· Stadium MRT, Circle Line, drops you at OCBC Square, which is the part getting the new LED facade.
· Padel courts are sheltered, so the rooftop will not be rained out. Book early once they open, six courts is not many.
· Splash-N-Surf is closed until Q1 2027. Do not bring the kids for the water play until then.
