Johor Bahru One-Day Itinerary, Gen Z Edition: Photobooth, Go Kart

The Gen Z version of a JB day trip: meet at Woodlands Checkpoint at 8am, brunch at Nimmies or Soil Cafe, photobooth strips at Kacha Kacha Studio in Eco Palladium, a horror escape room, go karting at RUD Karting, burgers at Lazy Monday, and a Watsons or Guardian run before the bus back. The caption says it all: we spent $100+ at Watsons.

Morning: checkpoint, brunch, photobooth

Meet at Woodlands Checkpoint at 8am. Everyone will be late, plan for it. Brunch is Nimmies Pastry Cafe, the bakery in a two-storey house at 171 Jalan Beringin, Taman Melodies, or Soil Cafe at Spring Lab, Jalan Ekoflora Utama, if you want the plant-covered cottage one. Both are decent, not overrated.

Then Kacha Kacha Studio, unit A-02-08 at Eco Palladium on Jalan Ekoflora 7/2, in the same Ekoflora area as Soil. Self-shoot booth, props, printed strips, and you can make a keychain out of your photos. We come here all the time. If sitting down is more your pace, the millennial edition swaps all of this for dim sum and a massage.

Afternoon and night: escape room, go kart, burgers

There are several horror escape rooms around Eco Palladium and Eco Botanic, with live actors in some. Maybe not the one for couples. Then go karting at Racing Underdog: RUD Karting has an outdoor track at Medini and an indoor one inside Sutera Mall. Time to put your wangan skills to the test.

Dinner is Lazy Monday. The HQ is at 71A Jalan Abdul Samad 1. Huge burgers, chill space, and the service was really good.

Bonus: the Watsons run

Every JB day ends in a Watsons or a Guardian. Vitamins, skincare, the Zyrtec your mum asked for. The photo in our post was from KOMTAR JBCC, the mall linked to JB Sentral, which is the easiest stop before you head back.

At a glance

💸Prices spotted: $100

Good to know

· Book Kacha Kacha ahead on weekends. Walk-ins wait.

· Soil and Kacha Kacha are both in the Ekoflora area, so do them back to back.

· RUD Karting has two tracks. Check which one you booked before you Grab.

· Bring ringgit. Card works in malls, not everywhere else.
