What the announcement said

This was the teaser, a week before the doors opened. Seven slides: a warehouse stacked to the ceiling with JBL boxes, a line saying the stock came direct from the official distributor, and a grid of logos, JBL, Harman Kardon, Denon and Arcam, under "over 8 audio brands".

The money slide said portable speakers, headphones, wireless earphones and even soundbars, starting from $10, up to 80% off. Our caption added that the organisers were back after many years and calling this their biggest one.

The JBL mahjong set was the hook

The slide everyone screenshotted was not a speaker. It was a red leather JBL mahjong case, branded Dare To Listen, listed as worth $288 and offered as a sure-win prize with a minimum spend, while stocks lasted. The slide did not print the spend, so we won't guess it.

It worked as bait. A mahjong set is a Christmas gift for your parents and a speaker is a gift for yourself, so one trip covers both.

How much of it held up

The dates, hours, address and free parking all ran as announced. Once people were inside, the gifts were tiered by spend, and there was a spin-the-wheel for bigger baskets. Our second video covers that, along with the demo units marked down even further: the JBL tables and the $500 spin.

The phrase "you'll never see prices like these" is marketing. What was true is that this was a distributor clearing boxes, which is why the floor price could be $10.
