Makan Match at eventful-sg.com/makan-match is a free 8-question quiz that gives you 15 Singapore spots in under two minutes, but it has no halal filter. What it does have is halal places in its list, and the word Halal shows in the cuisine line on those cards. Here are six it knows, with each one's halal status stated the way the venue states it.
Makan Match asks 8 questions (jelak or light, aircon, date, buffet, budget, healthy, group size, traditional or trendy) and one avoid screen for seafood, beef, spicy, and hotpot. None of them is halal. So read the cuisine line on each result. When I took it, Epicurean Fusion came up as "Italian Fusion · Halal".
Muslim-owned and MUIS certified are not the same thing, so each pick below says which it is.
Top photo: Family Hakata
Family Hakata, 728 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6. Mookata buffet, MUIS certified under the Eating Establishment Scheme. $19.90 nett for adults, $14.90 for kids. Book Family Hakata, or read our Family Hakata guide.
Carousel, Royal Plaza on Scotts. Hotel buffet. Its own site says it is certified halal by MUIS.
Opinion: Family Hakata is the easy yes for a mixed group on a budget. Carousel is for when someone else is paying.
Epicurean Fusion, 4 Jalan Klapa, Kampong Glam. 100% Muslim-owned and serving halal food. Not MUIS certified. Charcoal-base pizza, gnocchi, beef Wellington. Book Epicurean Fusion.
Seoul Garden. Its own site calls it a halal Korean BBQ and hotpot buffet that can hold groups of up to 150.
Hjh Maimunah. Its site calls it a traditional halal Malay restaurant. Nasi padang with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Spize, Bedok. Its site calls it an authentic global halal restaurant. A long menu, from wings to hummus.
If certification matters to you, ask to see the MUIS certificate at the counter. A good place will not mind.
