Five things to do in Genting Highlands that cost almost nothing: the Awana SkyWay cable car from RM11 one way, Chin Swee Caves Temple free with any SkyWay ticket, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets free to walk, the SkySymphony light show free at SkyAvenue, and Skytropolis indoor theme park if you want to pay for rides.

The cable car is the one to do properly

Awana SkyWay runs 7am to 11pm and covers 2.8km between Awana Sky Sentral and Genting Highlands Station, climbing 620m in about ten minutes. Standard gondola is RM11 one way, RM19 return. With express boarding it is RM17 one way and RM32 return. The glass-floor gondola, booked online, is RM29 one way and RM48 return.

Every ticket type includes a free stopover at Chin Swee Caves Temple, which is the single best value line item in Genting. Pay RM11, get the ride and the temple.

Weekend afternoons the queue at Sky Sentral is the worst part of the trip. If you are going then, the RM6 express upgrade is the one time we would say pay it.

Chin Swee Caves Temple, and the outlets

Chin Swee Caves Temple. Free to enter, and worth stopping at even if temples are not usually your thing, because the pagoda sits out over the valley and the view on the way up is better than most of the paid ones. There is durian sold up there too.

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets. Free to walk around, and the discounts are real rather than the fake-outlet kind. It is at the SkyWay's lower station, so it slots naturally into the same trip.

SkySymphony light show. Free, at SkyAvenue mall. It is not a spectacle on the scale of anything in Singapore, but it costs nothing and it is indoors, which matters when the weather turns up there, and it does.

Skytropolis, if you are paying for one thing

Skytropolis is the indoor theme park at SkyAvenue, and it is the only item on this list with a real price attached. Day passes and single-ride tickets are both sold, and the rates differ depending on which pass and which rate you qualify for, so check rwgenting.com for the current numbers before you commit.

Our advice stands regardless of the price on the day: if there are only two or three rides you actually want, buy single-ride tickets rather than the day pass. The pass only pays off if you are there for hours.
