Art afternoons

A Gillman gallery afternoon, planned around actual exhibitions

Sources checked 1 November 2026

Gillman Barracks works best when you choose two or three exhibitions, rather than arrive expecting every door to be open. The galleries set different hours, and installation breaks can matter just as much as the day of the week.

Tuesday to Saturday offers the strongest overlap for this selection. Check each exhibition’s location as well as its dates: a gallery’s current show elsewhere in Singapore is not automatically on view at Gillman.

Start with a confirmed current exhibition

Ota Fine Arts Singapore’s Place runs from 29 October to 19 December 2026. It brings together Chen Wei, Masanori Handa, Hilmi Johandi, Ming Wong and Zhao Yao, using different media to consider how places hold cultural meaning and personal attachment.

The gallery is at 7 Lock Road, #02-13. Its own current contact page gives Tuesday–Saturday 11am–7pm and closure on Mondays, Sundays and public holidays. Some precinct directories still show Sunday hours; use the operator’s current schedule instead. Check access arrangements with the gallery if stairs or lifts determine your visit.

Pick the next stop according to your date

These options are not a claim that all three are showing work today. They give you a way to select a second destination without relying on an outdated general gallery list.

Mizuma Gallery

Reverberations is scheduled for 14 November–13 December 2026, not already open on 1 November. The group show features Guo Jing, Lü Nan, Yang Xuxia and Zuo Er. Published hours are Tue–Sat 11am–7pm and Sun 11am–6pm; closed Mon/PH.

Make the visit a conversation, not a race

At your first exhibition, choose one work to spend time with before reading every label. Compare what you noticed with the artist’s or curator’s description. At the next gallery, look for a different medium or approach, rather than trying to decide which exhibition is “best”.

The buildings are separate, so allow for outdoor walking and rain. Save the exact block and unit numbers and use the SLA precinct directory for orientation, while checking hours with each gallery. Ask staff about photography and avoid touching works or entering installation areas. A commercial gallery visit is not a commitment to buy art.

Redevelopment plans are not a present-day closure notice

HDB’s 28 October 2026 update says site works are expected to begin in the second half of 2027, with land preparation expected from 2029. Those are future planning milestones, not evidence that the galleries have already closed.

Equally, do not assume a 2026 visit plan remains valid indefinitely. Recheck the official development update and individual gallery addresses before a later trip. If a changeover leaves only one exhibition available, enjoy that show properly or choose another day instead of presenting closed buildings as a gallery crawl.
