Yes, you can eat vegetarian zi char at Science Park. Famous JB101 at Sparkle has its own vegetarian menu with 18 dishes, from vegetarian fried rice and bee hoon at $7 for one to Vegetarian Buddhist Delight and Luohan Zhai at $18 / $24. It is a separate menu, not just meat dishes with the meat removed.
The green pages are numbered N01 to N18. Carbs first: Vegetarian Fried Rice, Fried Hor Fun, Fried Bee Hoon, Fried Noodles, Bee Tai Mak and Mee Sua, all $7 small / $15 medium.
Dishes for the table: Vegetarian Buddhist Delight and Luohan Zhai at $18 / $24, Vegetarian Claypot Beancurd at $18 / $28, Vegetarian Curry Vegetable at $18 / $22, and greens like baby kai lan, choy sum and sweet potato leaves at $14 / $19. For the regular menu, see our Famous JB101 guide.
This is where JB101 is useful. One vegetarian in a group of six usually ends up eating rice and kang kong. Here they can order Claypot Beancurd, Buddhist Delight and a vegetarian bee hoon and actually have dinner.
Our call: order the vegetarian dishes as the table's veg course, not as a side order for one person. Everyone shares, the vegetarian is not stuck with one plate, and you skip ordering a separate vegetable.
This is a vegetarian menu in a kitchen that also cooks pork, seafood and shrimp paste. If you are strict about shared woks, utensils, onion, garlic or egg, ask the staff how the vegetarian dishes are prepared. We are not going to promise anything the restaurant has not told us.
Also watch the regular vegetable section: dishes like Belacan Kang Kong, Shrimp Dwarf Bean and Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish are not vegetarian. Stick to the N-numbered dishes. And no, it is not halal either.
