KFC Curry x Sambal Zinger, 9/10. Curry sauce and sambal on a Zinger sounds like a stunt and eats like it should have always been there. We called it SG's new national burger and stand by it. McDonald's x Old Chang Kee, 8/10. Genuinely good, just outclassed this year. Krispy Kreme SG61 box, 7/10. The chilli crab glazed doughnut is the one people will argue about, and it works better than it has any right to. MOS Burger, 7/10. Bak kwa, egg, cucumber, coriander, all in one bun. Crazy enough that it lands. Starbucks kaya toast drinks, 6/10. Solid build, far too sweet. Half a pump less and this is an 8. Why the fast food chains go this hard in August

National Day menus are the one time of year every chain tries a local flavour, and the honest result is that the ones with a real reference point win. Curry and sambal on fried chicken is a thing people already eat. Kaya on a latte is an idea about a thing people eat. The gap between those two is the whole scoreboard above. Same reason the Old Chang Kee tie-up worked: curry puff filling on a McDonald's patty is a recognisable taste, not a concept.
