We rated five Hougang supper spots and Blk ABC won by a distance at 11 out of 10, mostly because we sat there for six hours. Al Falah took 9, Ah Ma Chi Mian 8, Kuai San Dian Xin 7, and Takagi Ramen came last at 5.
The coffee shop at Blk 684 Hougang Ave 8 that everyone just calls Blk ABC. Steamed dim sum around the clock, tables spilling out under the block, and the kind of crowd at 2am that makes it feel like a night market instead of a coffee shop. The score is a joke score and we are keeping it. Six hours is six hours. If late-night eating is your thing, it sits in the same category as the places we ranked in our pasar malam tier list: worth going out of your way for, not just worth eating.
681 Hougang Ave 8, #01-855, open 24 hours. Prata hits different at 3am and this is the stall that proves it: shattering on the outside, still soft inside, and the queue at supper time moves faster than it looks. It is the best-known supper spot in the area for a reason, and it is halal, which matters when you are trying to feed a group with different rules at midnight.
Ah Ma Chi Mian does Teochew handmade fishball noodles, and the thing to order is the liver soup. It is the item people come back for and the reason it beat the dim sum stall. Kuai San Dian Xin is the one with the lit-up price sign over the counter, which read $1.30 when we shot this. Cheap dim sum at any hour is a fair trade even when the har gow is not going to change your life. Check the board, prices on stalls like this move.
Mid, and we cannot complain. It is a chain, it is open late, and on a night when everything else has a queue it does the job. Nobody is travelling across the island for it and it is not trying to make you. Five out of ten is not an insult here, it is an accurate description of a reliable bowl of ramen at 1am.
· Blk ABC and Al Falah are both on Hougang Ave 8, a short walk apart, so you can start at one and finish at the other.
· Kovan MRT on the North East Line is the closest station to the Hougang Ave 8 cluster. Past midnight you are looking at a night bus or a ride.
· Bring cash for the coffee shop stalls. Some take PayNow, not all of them do at 3am.
· The queue at Al Falah looks worse than it is. Prata comes off the griddle fast.
It is the coffee shop at Blk 684 Hougang Ave 8. It is listed in maps as Hougang Blk ABC and it is best known for dim sum served around the clock.
Yes. Al Falah Restaurant at 681 Hougang Ave 8, #01-855, is open 24 hours daily and is halal certified. Prata is what it is known for.
We gave Blk ABC the top score for the atmosphere and the round-the-clock dim sum, with Al Falah a close second for prata. Ah Ma Chi Mian is the pick if you want soup rather than fried food.
