Halal Beef Wellington in Singapore: The $38 One in Kampong Glam

If you have been hunting a halal beef Wellington in Singapore, the answer is Epicurean Fusion at 4 Jalan Klapa in Kampong Glam: $38, cooked to order with a stated 20 minute wait, from a 100% Muslim-owned kitchen serving halal food. There is a Salmon Wellington at the same $38 for the beef-averse, and a Wagyu Beef Wellington at $75 for anniversaries. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Sunday from 12:30pm, closed Mondays.

Why halal Wellingtons barely exist here

A beef Wellington is fillet wrapped in duxelles and pastry, and the classic version leans on non-halal shortcuts at every layer: prosciutto around the beef, butter and sometimes lard in the pastry, a red wine jus.

Making it halal means rebuilding the layers, which is why most halal Western places stop at steak and ribs. At $38 it is also priced like a main, not a stunt.

For context, Wellington at Singapore's fine dining rooms routinely clears $70 a serve, so a halal one under $40 in Kampong Glam is a genuine outlier.

The 20 minutes, and what to do with them

The Wellington is fired on order and the menu is honest about the 20 minute wait.

Order it the moment you sit down, then let the starters do the waiting: the Burrata Salad ($18), Chicken Arancini ($15) or the Epicurean Platter ($36) if there are three of you.

The rest of the menu is the fusion act we covered in the full Epicurean Fusion guide, butter chicken gnocchi and charcoal-base pizzas included, so the non-Wellington half of the table eats just as well.

Booking it cheaper

Epicurean Fusion takes free bookings on Eventful Tables, and on Tuesday to Friday some timings take money off the food bill: 10% at 12:30pm and from 5:30pm to 7pm, 15% at 1:30pm and from 7:30pm. On a $38 Wellington the 15% timing saves you $5.70, which buys the gelato.

Deals are food only, capped at five bookings per timing, and skip weekends and public holidays. Parties up to six, last seating 8pm.

Good to know

· Order the Wellington first, before drinks even. The 20 minutes starts when the kitchen hears it.

· The wagyu version at $75 exists for occasions, the standard $38 one is the sensible order.

· Closed Mondays, and the room is small, so book ahead for Friday and Saturday dinner.
