Gardens-A-Glow runs at Singapore Botanic Gardens from 5 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, with some 250 community-decorated trees lit daily from 7pm to midnight. It replaces and builds on the Gardens' old Trees of the World, adding light installations, festive displays, exhibitions and activities across the Gardens. The Gardens are free to enter, and NParks has not announced any ticket for it.
This is the Botanic Gardens' refreshed year-end celebration. NParks describes it as building on the Trees of the World tradition, and the heart of it is still the same: about 250 trees, each one decorated by a family, a company, a school or a community group. The trees are roughly 2 to 3 metres tall, so think big potted saplings, not Orchard Road giants.
Around them NParks is adding light installations, festive displays, exhibitions and activities. It has not published the full line-up or a map yet. The guidelines say decorated trees will line spots like Main Gate Road, with a festive display at Bukit Timah Gate.
The nice part: after 3 January the trees are not binned. NParks dismantles the displays from 4 to 6 January 2027 and plants the trees in parks and green spaces around Singapore. If you want the big-city version of Christmas lights, our Orchard Road light-up guide has that. This one is quieter and greener.

Display period: 5 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Decorated trees are lit daily from 7pm to midnight. That covers Christmas Eve (Thursday 24 December), Christmas Day (Friday 25 December) and New Year's Eve.
Entry: Singapore Botanic Gardens is open 5am to midnight daily and general admission is free. Only the National Orchid Garden charges, and it closes at 7pm, so it will not be part of your evening walk.
Getting there: Botanic Gardens MRT (Circle and Downtown lines) lets you out at Bukit Timah Gate. Napier MRT on the Thomson-East Coast line is the closer stop for Tanglin Gate. Come after 7.30pm, when it is properly dark, and wear shoes you can walk a fair distance in.
Pair it with dinner nearby or make a night of the festive spots. Our Christmas markets 2026 list and Gardens by the Bay Christmas Train Show are the other easy December outings.
With a donation: give $800 or more to the Garden City Fund (NParks' registered charity and an Institution of a Public Character) and you get one tree to decorate with family, friends or colleagues. You can also hand it to a school, charity or community group to decorate for you. $10,000 or more lets you adopt and decorate a cluster of trees, plus an ornament-making workshop for up to 30 people. After donating, you register at go.gov.sg/gardensaglow-reg.
Without a donation: NParks says you can register your interest and it will invite you to decorate a tree as slots open up. No promises on numbers.
Decorating period: 14 to 29 November 2026, in three-hour slots. You check in at the Visitor Services Counter at Nassim, Tanglin, Tyersall, Gallop Extension or Bukit Timah Gate, get assigned a tree, then walk your stuff over. Some trees are far from the gates, so NParks suggests bringing a trolley.
The rules that matter: rope lights are provided, but there is no power point for your own lights. Decorations must be weatherproof until 3 January, light, inside a 1-metre radius of the tree, and not stuck into the ground. No food or edible decorations (wildlife), no religious or political content, no big banners, and logos no bigger than C6 size. If you want your ornaments back, tick that when registering and collect them at Tanglin Gate from 6 to 10 January 2027.
· Trees are lit 7pm to midnight only. A daytime visit means bare-looking decorations.
· Decorating slots run 14 to 29 November and last three hours. Bring a trolley, water, insect repellent and an umbrella.
· Edible decorations are banned, so no candy canes or gingerbread on the tree.
· Want your ornaments back? Say so when you register and collect them at Tanglin Gate between 6 and 10 January 2027.
