Plan a vinyl afternoon around how you want to listen

Sources checked 1 November 2026

A record-shopping afternoon works better with one clear aim: listen before investing in a setup, discover unfamiliar music, or search for a particular pressing. These three stops offer different ways in, rather than three interchangeable shops.

Pick one as your main destination. Clarke Quay, Sin Ming and Joo Chiat are separate neighbourhoods, so this is a comparison guide, not a walkable three-stop trail. Check stock directly if one album is the reason for your trip.

Swee Lee: start with an album, not a turntable purchase

At Clarke Quay, listening stations let you explore a collection of more than 500 records. Install VMI Connect to check titles and reserve a station. The current booking information lists S$15 per hour for pay-as-you-go listening; access is included with an eligible Insider subscription. Follow the current booking screen rather than older free-listening promotions.

The retail store is open daily noon–9pm at Block 3B River Valley Road, #01-06. Cafe hours differ: noon–9pm on weekdays and 10.30am–10pm on weekends. A later cafe closing time does not automatically mean a later station booking.

For a first visit, reserve the listening session before arranging the rest of your afternoon. Choose an album you already know, then use any remaining session time to explore something unfamiliar. Purchases and refreshments are separate from the listening fee unless your booking explicitly says otherwise.

The Analog Vault: go to the current Sin Ming HQ

The Analog Vault has left its former Esplanade location. Its current HQ is at 26 Sin Ming Lane, Midview City, #03-121. The contact page lists Wednesday–Saturday, 1pm–7pm. An older paragraph on its About page still says Thursday–Saturday, so confirm Wednesday visits through the listed WhatsApp number, +65 9026 5215.

The collection focuses on jazz, electronic, modern and experimental music, and global sounds. The operator describes this interim location as a warehouse where customers can collect orders and visit, rather than a replacement Esplanade-style shopfront. Browse the online catalogue first and check that any record you want is available for collection.

RetroCrates: compare the record and sleeve condition

RetroCrates sells new and pre-loved records across pop, rock, jazz and other genres at 450A Joo Chiat Road. Its official contact page does not publish a weekly opening schedule; confirm your intended visit via WhatsApp at +65 8718 7370 rather than relying on an old directory listing.

For used records, look at the separate condition descriptions for the LP, inner sleeve and cover. The shop explains that most records are visually graded with selected tracks checked, rather than every track played. Its FAQ says pre-owned records over S$60 are play-graded, and a requested play-grade can take up to a week.

That makes a useful buying checklist: confirm the exact pressing, ask what the grading covers, and discuss any visible marks before paying. A pristine sleeve is not proof of a pristine playing surface. The shop’s returns policy is for defective records, not a general change-of-mind trial.
