A relaxed Seletar day around The Oval and Hampstead Wetlands

Sources checked 1 November 2026

Seletar works best as a compact outing around The Oval, with a wetland visit and one planned meal. It is not a promise of an airport tour, a long boardwalk trek or uninterrupted aircraft sightings.

Choose the café time first, then fit the outdoor stops around the weather. That keeps the day useful even if you skip one walk or spend longer watching birds.

Begin with The Oval, not the whole aerospace estate

JTC describes The Oval as a cluster of heritage black-and-white bungalows and tree-lined avenues, with dining and leisure uses. Start here and follow the heritage signs to understand the area’s change from airbase to aerospace hub. Stay in publicly accessible spaces rather than entering operational or private premises.

The aviation-themed playground and scenic boardwalk are optional stops. Plane spotting depends on what is happening that day, so make it a bonus rather than the only reason to come. Use JTC’s estate page and map to orient yourself instead of assuming all industrial roads form a visitor trail.

Three outdoor stops, with different purposes

These are choices for a leisurely visit, not a timed race between landmarks. Shorten the outing if rain or heat makes the next stop unappealing.

Heritage signs around The Oval

Seletar Aerospace Park

Read the signs between the heritage buildings. This gives the walk a focus beyond photographing façades, without requiring access inside each bungalow.

The Oval

Choose the playground for a family pause or the boardwalk for a look towards the aviation setting. Do not promise children that a particular aircraft will appear.

Use the designated nature trail and boardwalk to observe the wetland. Keep your distance from wildlife; binoculars are useful for looking without approaching birds.

Choose one meal stop that is actually open

Wildseed Café occupies Level 1 at 3 Park Lane. Its current official hours are 8am–5pm daily, with last orders at 4.30pm. It recommends reservations, especially if a table is essential to your plans. A morning café visit can be the anchor for a shorter wetland-and-Oval outing.

Wheeler’s Estate at 2 Park Lane is a different option. Its official hours begin at 5pm on Monday, 3pm Tuesday–Friday, and 9am on Saturday and Sunday. It closes at 11pm Monday–Thursday and Sunday, and midnight Friday and Saturday; public-holiday hours are 9am–midnight. Do not arrive expecting weekday breakfast there. Check its current hours before choosing it as your meal stop.

Wetland access and the trip home

Hampstead Wetlands is open 24 hours, but choose daylight for this first visit. NParks notes that there is no wheelchair connection between the nature trail and boardwalk; the general accessibility label does not mean the whole route is step-free. Cycling and riding are not allowed on the boardwalk.

There is no carpark inside the wetland park. NParks directs drivers to the nearby carpark at 2 Park Lane. JTC lists buses 102, 103 and 117 serving the aerospace park; check the stop for your chosen destination rather than assuming all three stop at each venue.

Save the return journey before starting, especially if you are dining later. Leave buffer time between a booked table and outdoor stops, and check the wetland visitor page for access updates. This plan does not rely on the estate’s office-oriented shuttle services or on a fixed walking duration.
