What the giveaway actually was
Not a discount, an actual giveaway. Anyone who joined the queue got up to two durians free while stocks lasted. The stall put out between 800kg and 1,000kg a day, mostly kampung varieties trucked in from Bentong in Pahang and Muar in Johor. The cap started at three per person and was cut to two once the queues got serious, which tells you how fast it moved.
Why a stall gives away a tonne of durian
The owners said it was about getting younger people to actually try durian, and giving something back to the neighbourhood. Make of that what you will, but the queues were real: people turned up one to two hours before it started.
